If it's a proper breeder then I agree they should know better. In some cases though, like ours, the person giving away/selling the kittens isn't experienced either and may not know any better (not that that's an excuse because if was me I'd do some research and find out about looking after kittens).

The person we got Fluffy from is my husband's friend. The cats he owns were his girlfriend's and he got left with them when she moved out. I don't think he's very well-informed about cat/kitten care and he's not the sharpest knife in the drawer! I'm actually quite suprised that he successfully managed to rear the litter to 8/9 weeks so they were all healthy! Our little moggie was the runt of the litter, but he was so cute we couldn't resist him. He's perfectly healthy now though but I'm glad I got advice on here about diet etc. I expect he didn't think he was doing anything wrong giving them away at that age, he just wanted them to go to good homes (they were all given away to friends of his).

This is a moggie kitten, and it seems to be acceptable practice to allow moggies, even unregistered pedigrees, to leave home as early as 6 weeks old. Advertising sites are full of kittens available from that age. Its not the purchasers fault.

It is more ignorance on the sellers side. I wouldn't necessarily refer to the seller as a "breeder", I think there is a clear distinction between breeders and people who allow their cats to have sex.

true a breeder is someone who goes into breeding with eyes wide open, picking the stud, care for the queen before, during and after, and making sure the kittens are well looked after injection, this is a small part of what breeders do.

someone just letting there cat out and letting the tom hanging around breed with there cat is not responsible, they have not thought throw what it takes to rear these kittens. and how healthy the mum is in the first place, just what i think.

Re: My 7 week old kitten seems to have trouble going to the toilet - please help!

Hello Everyone.

Thank you so much for your help. I appreciate it. Iv tried a couple of the suggested things the oily fish and wiping his bottom with a tissue seems to have helped him out. So cheers

The person I got Bailey from was a little old lady whose cat seems to have been pregnated by the local bengal stud accidentally. Bailey seems to be a Bengal/tabby cross. His so sweet. I agree usually kittens should stay with their mother till later but this lady was selling the kitten at 7 weeks regardless of this and since I can devote the time to him, giving him lots of hugs and cuddles and play with him I decided at least I generally know what Im doing with cats as Iv had two previously that lived till very old age 19 years and 14 years it was probably better me then some person who doesn't have a clue taking the kitten on. His got such a sweet little character about him. I have him booked in to see the vet next week so a check up and some advice re his vaccinations and flea treatment should work wonders.

Il try and add some pics of Bailey for you all to see, just got to work out how to attach them on this site, aaahhh think Iv worked it out.

Thanks again everyone your all stars. Il be sure to check back. xx

i can see why you picked him, he is so cute, i understand what you are saying but i do think maybe little old lady needs to take the cat to a vet and have a op done.

your little one is very lucky he has you, just not so sure for the others.

good luck and once again lovely little fellow.

Re: My 7 week old kitten seems to have trouble going to the toilet - please help!

also the mum licks them around the lower parts and this encourages the kitten to poo and so will not be getting that help now.

if you're really dedicated to helping him, Emmylou, I'm sure this won't be a step too far .................

you can use front line flea spray for your kitty, put some gloves on and put some on to your hands then massage in to the cats coat but do not get it near eyes mouth.

i would pop him a long to the vets for a check up.

you could be using a different brand of food to the breeder so this maybe why he is a little bunged up.

i do have to say that most of my kittys would have not long gone on to solids and still at that age wanted there mums milk. could be why he is bunged up as well..

Take note of the bottom bit in that sentence arent you glad your not a cat
