Worming options

Hello

I have a 6kg tabby tom called Ollie. I currently worm him with Drontal XL tablets. However, these are quite large, and getting him to swallow it can be challenging!

He will not touch food that has had a pill crushed over it. The last time, I crushed a pill, mixed it with a little water, then force fed it to him with a syringe, which he was not pleased about.

I was wondering if there was anything similar to Frontline for worming?? He currently has a tablet every 3 months, but would be much easier if I could just put drops on him!!

I've seen a couple of things on the net, but these are described as "treatment for tapeworm" so I'm not sure if it's what I'm looking for!

Thanks

Drontal tastes FOUL (I've got it on my fingers before now!)

Stronghold Spot On contains wormers but if your cat goes out, it may need an anti tapeworm injection.

There's also Provender but I'm not sure what that covers.

The butter is a good idea! He takes normal sized tablets pretty well, but these XL tablets are huge!

I might ask my vet the next time checkup time comes round. I always feel a little disloyal discussing what brands of flea/worm treatment to use, as I ultimately don't buy from my vet anymore, I buy the same brands online for far cheaper! Our vet is a very nice man but the mark ups he charges on Frontline & Drontal are crazy!!

Re: Worming options

Hi there...here's a couple of links to online vet pharmacies. I use these all the time to get my worming and flea treatment. They do liquid solutions too..and they are cheaper than most vets. Hope this helps.

Re: Worming options

There is a new one out called Advocat which I think does both types of worms and fleas - a spot on treatment.

Re: Worming options

Hi,

Im going through the same problem at the minute with my cats, ive tried profender but didnt think much of it and a few months ago i bout the XL drontal but cant for love nor monry get them in the little monsters.....i managed to get one to eat half crushed up in corned beef but as soon as she realised what was in it she stopped.

Then i tried pinning my tom down and popping it at back of his mouth only to get my fingers bit...then im sure he glued his mouth shut....anyway ive been thinking of taking a trip to the vet today and seeing if they have any more solutions, i know theres a pill administrator gadget that may do it ...anyone used it???....and i wonder if the XL tabs are too big???
