Your views on 'cat milk' ?

ah me again with the questions!

can I ask your views about cat milk please? My pusscats have a little each evening apparantly (they are still with their current owner til we can take them) Ive read up about the facts on cows milk etc and about the specially made cat milks, they have a little Whiskas cat milk each day.

My question is, what do you feel about the nutritional benefits? if this really a treat or indulgence or does it have a place in their diets? would really like to know your views so can decide if its something to continue with, although I will be continuing when they are first here until they settle in as want to keep things constant for them. If its something they really love I dont mind continuing to give them it.

are some cat milks better than others? eg supermarket own brands etc?

thanks! xxxxx

Re: Your views on 'cat milk' ?

none of mine have cat milk, all drink water, sometimes if i am looking for a treat i will put some down but to be honest, they drink a little then leave it.

i would say if they like it then continue with it.

Re: Your views on 'cat milk' ?

thanks hun, apparantly they love it and as long as they are drinking water too I dont have any objection to continuing to give it them, am guessing its probably quite rich then seeing as the suggested serving seems tiny ad as you say if yours only have a taste?

my cats have it every day, but only a tiny bit, like a teaspoon, and they love it. they are never sick and have never had diarrhea, if they did we would stop.

Re: Your views on 'cat milk' ?

I think cat milks are just a treat. Some cats like milky stuff others don't. I did try mine on one that Tescos had, it was made from goats milk and cream.

Goats milk is supposed to be lower lactose than cows milk, so shouldn't cause digestive issues. I give mine goats yogurt, they get a large pot a day mixed in with their scrambled egg. All that said goats milk and yogurt has no affect on them, but the cat milk cartons and a couple were a bit loose, so maybe whatever treatment they give it changes the constitution, certainly the fresh stuff has never had an affect. I have a few old siamese breeding books written in the 40s and 50s and they used goats milk to substitute Mums milk in the days before the formulate cat milk replacers.

If a cat likes a milky treat its nice to indulge that from time to time.

Back in those days they used goats milk for humans too - I was brought up on it as I couldn't tolerate cows milk!
Interesting to see that you feed scrambled egg. Could I ask how often and how much? I always give it to my kittens so that, if they are unwell when they are older and leave me, they will eat it instead of looking horrified.
