Re: Advice on Cat Skin Complaint

I must admit we do feed her Felix pouches and Whiskas biscuits. The sensitive food we tried her on was Royal Canin Hypoallergenic but she was having none of it! She was on the same food (Felix) at the cattery and yet it cleared up in no time while she was there. We are very confused!!!

Thanks again for all your suggestions!

Niki xx

Re: Advice on Cat Skin Complaint

is she an indoor or outdoot cat - did the pen have different conditions than at home - for example if she is an indoor cat did the pen have an ourdoor run? Could it be due to the dry air we have in our houses due to central heating? Just a thought and a complete stab in the dark. Does she wear a collar? I've seen cats who's hair doesn't grow under the collar at all maybe she is sensitive to that if she has one. I'm sure you've thought of this already but i'm a little stumped.

Re: Advice on Cat Skin Complaint

We had Tillie back at the vets last night and she is now booked in for a skin biopsy on monday. The vets are quite worried that theres an underlying problem so we thought we'd best have it done sooner rather than later. Apparently theres also a series of blood tests that we can have done or they can refer us to a dermatologist. I hardly had any sleep at all last night as Tillie was curled up with me but whenver she licked or scratched the affected area she was growling at herself! She's really got herself in a state over it this time. We're trying to play with her more to keep her mind off it but thats not really working - roll on monday!! At least once she's had the biopsy then she can have an injection to ease the pain.

One of mine had a skin scrape and hair pluck to rule out mites and other parasites/bacterial infections etc and it took weeks for the results to come back (they have to grow cultures) so I hope your vet has suggested some form of treatment in the interim for your poor kitty.
I found that 1/3 of a hayfever tablet and applying some evening primrose oil to the skin really did help.

yeh. they've said once she comes round from the anesthetic they can give her something to ease the pain but she cant have it before hand as it'll affect the test results.
