Indoor Cats and Feeding

Hello all

thankyou all for previous advise that youve given, makes me feel more comfortable to ask more questions!!

We rescued izzy from the RSPCA a good few months ago now, and over christmas we decided we would start to let her outside.. hoping that we could eventually let her out in the morning and back in when we returned from work

However.. she hasnt really taken to it, she will go out into the garden for 5/10 mins and then wants to come back in.. i persued with it but after several weeks of being let out, shes not interested. This may change through the summer months when its maybe a bit warmer?

However.. the point of my thread.

Should i feed her slightly less of her daily allocated food amount because shes not getting much exercise? all she does in the day is sleep, and then she runs around in the kitchen/living room in the evening when playing..

im worried shes going to put on weight.. Shes on JW dry food at the moment

Re: Indoor Cats and Feeding

you could put in a cat flap so that she can get in and out when she wants to. She may want to go out more in the summer. Gizmo isn't fussy - he'll go out anytime unless it is pouring with rain!
As for feeding her I wouldn't cut it down unless she is actually putting on weight. Gizmo is very much an outdoor cat but he still spends most of that time asleep - usually on the bird table in warm weather or the compost heap if it's cold.

Be guided by her It's freezing at the mo, not surprised she doesn't fancy staying out. I'm sure she'll enjoy it more in the spring and summer. So far as weight control goes, just keep an eye on her, only cut back if she's obviously gaining weight too fast.

I wouldnt cut her food down yet, Boris goes out but i have been keeping him in cos he hasnt been well and it's cold but he loves going out, he spends most of his time in the garden though.
He does have a cat kennel incase it rains when we are out and i leave food and water in there for him. xxx

Thanks for the advice

i would like to buy one of those cat kennel things for her - but a cat flap isnt really feasable im afraid

i will watch how she goes then, she doesnt seem to know how to jump when she goes outside.. she will only go as far as she can by climbing through holes and stuff at ground level hehe i dont mind that so much though, means she can only go in our neighbours and our own gardens
