Change in behaviour

Hi

I don't know if anyone can help, I'm more a dog person (owned by 5 of the blighters!!) but I do have my beautiful big black cat Herbert and he's making me worry a little. He's only just over a year old, and he's always been an out door boy. He's a proper hunter and I usually catch sight of him once or twice a day and if I'm lucky he'll come for a quick 10 minute cuddle then he's off! Pretty much every night he'd bring home some dead body (which is always a pleasure).
The last week or so he's been pretty much staying in constantly and doesn't seem to be eating a huge amount. I've changed his food to see if that helped and it did for a bit but he just seems very lazy and unlike himself. He's a very large cat and I'm convienced he's getting food elsewhere but I'm worried with this change of character being something other than just the sudden cold weather we are having.

Does anyone have any clues? Obviously I'm more than happy to take him to the vets if need be but thought someone with more cat experience might be able to shed some light?

Re: Change in behaviour

It probably is the cold weather, my cat has only been out to go to the toilet and then straight back in If he is eating and drinking ok I would just monitor him for a couple of days, if you are still worried then perhaps a call to yr vet for a check up xx

Yes I would say that the weather is probably having a bearing but it may be an idea to worm him too as if he is out hunting..... If he is lethargic and off his food for more than two days then I would take him for a check up - better safe than sorry.

Have you been keeping an eye on his toileting, he may have a blockage or something, if nothing is coming out then he wont be interested in anything going in. May need a vet if the pieces fit.

Re: Change in behaviour

Thanks guys. Well I bought him some Sheba as a treat on saturday and he wolfed that!!! (He's usually fed raw meat with dried food). I did put a litter tray in the house and he's used it for wee's but being still going outside for a pooh so I think all that is working!! Worming is a good idea I'll get some tablets today. He did go out for a few hours on sunday when the weather turned abit milder, but last night slept all night on my pillow which is unheard of!!! I think I'll see if I can get him in the vets anyway, he's due his vacc's in the next month so might as well bring that forward and just get him checked out. Thanks for all the help.

Pure bred moggy!! Unfortunately one of my friends is the local RPSCA officer and she is always giving me a sob story of endless kitten's being dumped and then one day she told me of 4 jet black kits and it's always been my wish to have a big black male cat!! So Herbert came on trail to see if he could cope with 5 dogs...he did and now rules them!!!

Here he is with 2 of his 'pack' !!!
