Flea and Worming Question for Kitten

Looking for some advice please, and apologies for not searching this question throughout the forums, as I am sure it has been asked many many times, but I am partially sighted, so do struggle to read in volumes.

My question is can I use Frontline Spot on Cat Solution and Drontal XL wormer on a nearly 5 month old kitten, she weighs just over 2kg and is a rather large kitten for age, very long and lean too.

My vet whom I had her from wormed her twice whilst she was with him, her last worming was about 6 weeks ago, but given her very skinny appearance and ravenous appetite, I suspect she needs doing again.

I have had cats for over 25 years, but this is my first kitten again in 15 years, let's just say I have had a short sharp learning curve in kitten ownership

I ask because on my Frontline and Drontal it states for cats over 4-6kg.

Thank you in advance.

KarenJen

Re: Flea and Worming Question for Kitten

Please don't use the wormer on her, it would be an overdose and could make her ill, if she's 2kg in weight , it's about three times the dose she needs.
Your vet can sell you the right dose drontal or milbemax tablet for her age/weight.
If the vet says she's old enough for Drontal [think 6 mnths is usual] then the dose for a 2kg kitten would be one HALF of an ordinary cat drontal.
OR you could buy a milbemax tablet for her instead.
The same with the flea treatment, it is basically a toxin, you could make her ill by using too much, she needs the correct size pipette for her weight.

Thank you for this Leah, duly put away in cupboard until she is of 'age'.

Off to vets this pm to get correct kitten medication.

Thank you.

Re: Flea and Worming Question for Kitten

Hi you can use a very small amount of the frontline spray on her over her shoulders, i worked in a cattery for awhile and we used it on 8wk old kittens and they were fine. you could also use a wormer called prokolin it comes out a tube as a paste it isnt very nice but its safe. best of luck, Amy

Re: Flea and Worming Question for Kitten

I'm sorry but prokolin is NOT a wormer. It is a kaolin and probiotic paste used for treating up set tummies. It might have been used at the same time as worming, but it will not treat any worms itself.

Re: Flea and Worming Question for Kitten

you cannot easily overdose on wormer, you can give a lot over the stated dose with no ill effect.panacur paste is easy to use and frontline spray is finei think you can use spot on frontline from 12 weeks of age on cats over 1 kg.
