fussy eaters

Hi all,

After my Tonkinese boy's tummy upset, I changed their food from Whiskas to Hi-Life. all was fine for a short period, until both kittens stopped eating it - much preferring their dry food (James Wellbeloved Kitten Ocean!).

I have tried them on Applaws (get's a medium response - they like chicken and cheese but nothing else).

The advice I am after is - is there any problem with this diet? I know wet food is better for them than dry - but they don't like it, so this combo of Applaws and dry seems to be all I can do.

Thank you for any advice.

Leigh

Re: fussy eaters

The JWB should offer them a pretty balanced diet. Have you tried them on Royal Canin Kitten? Hills do a Sensitive food in pouches but it is not specifically kitten.

Re: fussy eaters

Applaws for adult cats (wet) isn't complete though I think kitten Applaws is complete.

I do sympathise - cats seem to love a certain food one minute then turn their pretty little noses up at it the next!

You could try them on (Butchers) Classic tinned catfood which is available at Sainsbury, Asda, Waitrose, Wikinsons (not sure about Tesco). It is rather garishly coloured blue and orange. It does not contain grain or unsuitable additives, is complete. It is also cheap (£4.00=12 400gm tins)

It is like cubes of meat in a jelly. If they like that then they will almost certainly like Bozita which is available at Zooplus and is another 'good' high meat protein content wet food.

Re: fussy eaters

Thanks guys for your help - my husband is going beserk at the amount of unused food pouches in our cupboards!

I have had them on chicken and rice sensitive food after Siggy's upset tummy, which they seemed to like (but maybe that's because they were on starvation rations for 24 hours!) but as I can only get this from the vets it is frustrating...

Will try another couple of brands, then give up and leave them to the dry food!

Thanks again.

Re: fussy eaters

Just a suggestion for the unliked, unused food in the cupboards. Donate to your local rescue centre......

I had some of that too - I had 20 odd tins of Cosma which I very stupidly bought on line in bulk and which the cats hated - like not eating it at all.

I also had litter from my old cat (unused ) which wasn't like by the new cats.

So I googled my local rescue centre which happened to be just up the road and a small local charity - not CPL. They were so grateful, funnily enough more so for the litter!!!!!!

Re: fussy eaters

great idea Janee - I'll do that!

Can't help on the cat litter for them though - my cats and I both love Worlds Best (although I draw the line at using it myself, leave that to the little ones!)

Re: fussy eaters

Don't give up on the wet. The trouble with dry is that it is addictive being carb loaded. It takes a time to get kitties weaned from it completely. The best thing to do is carry on as you are but slowly cut down on the amount of dry. You could try sprinkling a portion of the dry on top of their wet to get them to eat it.

Cats can be faddy creatures, like kids, so I wouldn't give up on the wets you have tried so far but they decide they are not that keen on. Try them again in a month. Mine go through fads, love something eat lots of it, then turn their noses up at it. Introduce it again in a month or so time - love it again
