Not sure if it's too late to add to this discussion for the original poster, but I use Skudo Flea and Tick Repellers on my dogs, and know people who use them for cats too. They seem to be a good natural alternative to frontline, and also no need to keep re-applying creams or sprays. They're ultrasonic proven tested devices which are attached to the collar and worn all year round. My dogs both had a least one tick per year with Frontline, but last spring I stopped using it (because I didn't like the idea of using poisons on my dogs), and used Skudo's instead. They work a treat! No ticks at all last year, and never had flees anyway so I'm very happy. Search "Skudo flea and tick Repeller for cats and dogs" on Google UK. You can get them for about £11 - 12 and they last for 1 year, which is massively cheaper than Frontlining your cats/dogs for a year. Also suitable for pups/kittens and pregnant pets too. So all round I'd give them a big thumbs up.

Re: Flea treatments.....
I would recommend Frontline. Do not use Bob Martins or Johnsons. They are not veterinary products and so not have to comply with veterinary regulations. Frontline is very effective, just spot on once a month. Drontal is an effective wormer to be given every three months.

Some flea treatments also cover some worms(Advocate/Stronghold)but not the tapeworm, some cover ticks(Frontline Combo), some only kill the fleas on the animal in a 24hr period(Capstar). There are spot on(Stronghold/Frontline/Advocate/Advantage), sprays(Frontline) and injections(Program), all which can be purchased at your vets. There are a couple types of wormer too. Not all of them cover all species of worm and not all of them cover tapeworm! Milbemax(kittens/cats/preg and lactating queens), Profender(kittens/cats), Drontal(kittens/cats) and Panacur(kittens/cats/lactating queens)but does not cover all species of tapeworm. Profender and Milbemax I find the be the best coverage. Last edited by animalia; 06-04-2009 at 02:19 PM.. |

Re: Flea treatments.....
I was interested in the front line jab for my cat but what age is it safe to use as hes only 14 weeks old. Also does any one know how long it lasts for. I currently use front line for my cocker.
