Re: Cat we are getting has cat flu - after he is treated can he still pass it on?
I dont understand it either. Its wrong!
I would never ever treat any of my animals in the way she has treated hers. If Jake gets ill he goes to the vet - thats just the way it is Both kittens are now awake and being loud. You knew newspaper could be so amusing! |

If he not going to pass on to my 2, and ok to travel. could he stay with you for friday night so you can watch his eye, and he knows you! But keep well away from mums 3. Then we have him Sat after gran gone?
No point making too many plans until we know whether he can travel and whether he can pass on flu. Oh the joy of giving a poorly cat a home! How come you awnser on here but not email? |

Re: Cat we are getting has cat flu - after he is treated can he still pass it on?
Right just got off the phone to cats protetion - turns out she has done this before and they managed to save a few of her cats but not all of them!
The cats protection have already involved the RSPCA. They are talking of proscuting her - which is good but its put me in a very very alkward position as she lives not far from me and will proberly kick off but im not bothered about that im only bothered about the kittens! The cats protection dont have a vets bill paying system thing so hopefully the RSPCA will cover it and the cats can finally be sorted out. I have calmed down slightly now, still sad for the kittens but 2 are here and thats all i can do for the moment! I'll keep you informed Ang - and i didnt email you because im too lazy here in my little zoo |

You are lazy ;-)
Might have to consider letting rspca have them - to get them sorted? Got to think whats best for kittens. |

Well the RSPCA down here is full up. Im willing to take them until better.
Depending on the strain of the virus depends on wether i can rehome him with you Im so knackered, i have managed to half sort out 2 kittens today, rehome a dog and sort out my sheep!! Tomorrow will be another day |

Re: Cat we are getting has cat flu - after he is treated can he still pass it on?
The stress of being moved to a new environment with different cats will be enough to evoke another flu outbreak,he can pass it on to your others, this can be very expensive, difficult and time consuming (antibiotics twice daily, eye drop and cleaning),trust me,i had a outbreak from a new cat, infect 12 of mine!!cost me the best part of £1000 in vets fees at least
i would never take the risk again,i was careless, and it cost me and my cats they have all since recovered, but my breeding plans have been put on hold, for a long time so i can be sure they are all clear,we had the calci virus,a mild one,but there are much worse, and i doubt a mild one would cause a cat to lose his eye.And my lot had 3 lots of antibiotics,6 weeks treatment per cat.

Yes it is a harsh virus to control but it can be controlled im not overly keen on vaccines but if caught early enough the symptoms can be treated easily! Without kittens having to loose their eyes.
I personally would never breed - to me its morally wrong. But yeah your right it does pass from queens to kits and other cats very very easily. |

Re: Cat we are getting has cat flu - after he is treated can he still pass it on?
I am sure that you love this little cat very much and would do anything to help. However if the cat has already lost an eye it does look like it could have been caused by untreated herpes-conjunctivitis. I would urge you to allow CP to place this cat with someone who has no other cats or only viral cats and who can look after him. Infecting your own cats would be very sad but by the sounds of it inevatable if you take the puss. Have no fear he will get a home.
On another point I think breeding cats is a very evil act given the huge and rapidly increasing number of cats without homes in a recession. I would like to see all cat and dog breeding in the UK outlawed. |
