Worming my Kittens

Hi everyone, Babies doing great We do have a Big boy amongst the group

Ok my question is about worming. I have been trying to find info in books and on the net but i must be looking in the wrong placerolleyes:

When should i start to worm?
When do i give the first flee treatment?
When should i first visit the Vets? ( i dont want to take them out in the cold until i really have to)
Your answers would be very much appreciated

Will post pics soon

Thanks Rebecca

Re: Worming my Kittens

I got Abby when she was 10 weeks old, and I took her to the vet pretty much straight away to get her checked. The vet told me that they should get wormed every month until they're 6 months old, but I don't really know when you should start! she had a few fleas when I got her (the vet said it is pretty normal for a small cat, and she didn't have many anyway) so I gave her some tablets specifically for kittens, and now I use Advocate spot on treatment, recommended by my vet, and so far is working ok! She's just over 4 months now, and I do let her out nearly every day, always supervised, and luckily she didn't get fleas anymore!
When I took her to the vet, I used a heated pad (specific for pets, can't remember the name now) and wrapped her basket with a blanket, since it's a wicker basket so i didn't want her to get too much wind/cold. To be fair, now she keeps on going out even if it's cold, and doesn't seem to have any problems.. she'd stay out all day if it was for her!
good luck with your kitten!!!!

Hi Rosieragdoll You can start worming kittens from 2 weeks with Panacur paste. I do it at 2,5,8 weeks with Panacur then usually by 12 weeks they are big enough for a Milbemax tablet which the vet can do when they have their second vaccs. Hope that helps you a bit

Sorry Rebecca forgot to add shortbackandsides is right about the frontline spray but tbh I usually wait til they are 12 weeks & apply the frontline spot on so they are ready for their new slaves!!

Re: Worming my Kittens

sorry, replying so late at night i forgot it's not a "new" kitten you're getting but your babies! very very young then (must be sooo cute too!), have you tried calling the vet for advice? even though i found that my vet is not that helpful, i told him abby's my first cat and he gives me the very basic info, nothing more

Re: Worming my Kittens

I agree with Abooksigun and worm at week 2,5 and 8. For the earlier worming I use either the Panacur paste or syrup and the last one a Milbemax tablet. I usually only use the spot on flea treatment in the week prior to their leaving. Our vet has only just started stocking the Adovocate treatment so will give that a go next time.
