Cat eye problem

Hi,
we have a one year domestic short-haired male, who has recently developed a problem with both his eyes. What we assume to be the third eye lid ( a white coloured membrain) has started to encroach across the eyeball. There is no discharge and he does not appear to be in any pain.Does anyone have any idea what this might be? Do we need to get him seen by a vet asap or do we just wait and see if it clears up on its own?
Thank you in advance for any help you can give us.
Adey

Re: Cat eye problem

HI,

Sometimes cats can get something called Hawes eye syndrome..(or something to that effect) im sure it lasts around 6 months and dont quote me on this but goes away by itself.

Another thing that can make this eyelid come up is when they are a little under the weather..or have gut irritations which may or may not be caused by worms.

If you are worried i would def suggest a trip to the vets.

Have you wormed him recently??...outdoor cats need worming monthly...and also a good flea treatment like frontline to avoid reinfection of worms.

It could just be that he needs a good worming anf fleaing which would make him feel a little under the weather.

Re: Cat eye problem

I'd definitely take him to the vet to get it checked. If it is something serious it's best to catch it as early as possible! That said, it could well be just a simple eye infection - my cat had that last week and it cleared up in a few days with eye drops
