Re: Really worried.....
Just thought I'd update you all. I took Winston to the vets last night as I'd been reading up on his symptoms at work and panicked that he might have FIP or a respitory infection so rushed him straight there and after a thorough examination by a different vet (temp was normal, his weight is excellent, his nose etc clear, no dihorrhea etc, energy levels are good and eating and drinking normally) so came to the conclusion that he has a bit of conjunctivitis which is what is causing him to be a bit snuffely (that and that his breed have quite squashed faces and small nasal cavities). She said that she could do a blood test to check for FIP but that all it would show up if anything would be that he had been in contact with it at his breeders and would not give a definate diagnosis. So for now I have to continue with the eye drops for another week or so and see how that goes and if it clears it up but she's quite confident that if it was flu he'd be in a very sorry state and he seems fine at the moment, apart from slightly red eyes and snuffles so fingers crossed that it is just conjunctivitis
I was also worried about his pot belly (whish seems to be much less noticeable now) the vet said that he was probably bloated from the food I'd been feeding him and that its nothing to worry about and that lots of kittens get tummies. I wormed him again a week ago so she said that it’s probably not worms (he's been parping quite a bit recently too). I'd been feeding him on royal canin dry and whiskers kitten wet so she said to try him on 'Hills Prescription ID Diet' for a week or so and see if that helps his digestion so we'll see if that helps his tummy and wind. |

Re: Really worried.....
Hi
not all vets know everything so it might be worth trying a different vet for a second opinon just to be on the safe side and mentioning the symptoms to them, i hope it will be ok, best of luck, Amy |

Re: Really worried.....
Hi, LMK, I cant find anywhere on this thread where you have said what actual breed your kitty is. Please could you let me know, just out of interest for my own sake I would like to know if he/she is Persian or Exotic?

Re: Really worried.....
Ooh sorry, he's a British Blue.
He had his 2nd vacs on Monday and we saw his original vet again (he's seen 2 now). He'd put on a good amount of weight and she checked him over thoroughly..his temp was normal, nose, heart, breathing etc all normal. What we're going to do after xmas is some swabs and tests etc so that we can catch whatever it is and prevent further episodes. The vets was going to try to get hold of the lab to see which would be best to do. She likened it to a cold sore and said it might just be one of those things that flares up every now and again but I want to be prepared so we can either clear whatever it is up completely or at least if it's going to be something that will flare up all of the time know how best to treat it so for the moment I'm just continuing with his eye drops and if there's no improvement within a week I'll take him back. It’s not something that appear to be causing him any discomfort but I’d rather (for my own piece of mind) get to the bottom of it incase it gets any worse. |
