when can I start feeding my kitten adult cat food? she is 16 weeks old & has had all her jabs...i heard she could go onto adult cat food once she has had all her vaccinations - is this true?

I've heard the same too - i've just moved mine over to adult and they are 7 & 8 months old.

thanks Auds_Mum! we might think about changing her over to adult food in the next couple of weeks or so...she is such an active wee thing, just worry that she isn't getting enough with the kitten food!

Kitten food normally has more nutrition than adult food, to support their growth. I'd keep her on kitten food until she's at least 6 months - unless the adult food you're planning to feed is a high quality wet food such as HiLife (or any other complete food with over 50% meat) - then just start feeding that immediately

I have to agree with Coraline.

Kitten food is meant for kittens it has all the nutritional content they need to help them grow so I would keep on it for at least 6mths to a year.

This is what most manufacturers recommend too.

Thanks Firealive. We will keep her on the kitten food for the time being - my husband thought this was the best option anyway!!!

My ten month old kitten is still on kitten food both wet and dry, though she does get a special treat every now and again, so I think she'll be okay on kitten food a bit longer. I'll probably start introducing her to more adult food after Christmas.

Usually take mine off at 8 months. Though at the moment mine just have cosma and applaws and raw so hopefully ok for all ages.
