Changing insurance companies

Now we have Sybil we need to get her insured. She has a heart murmur and is going for an ultrasound on Thursday. The vet mentioned that if the scan proves she has no structural defects now that some insurance companies may cover her for any future heart problems.

So I was hoping someone would know of a company that might consider this?
I was thinking petplan but their policy wording doesn't give me much hope. Will still ring them to get their opinion however.

Also, I'd like all three cats to be on the same cover as it's easier. Both boys have had bouts of gastro that we've claimed for (hospitalization, xrays etc). Do you think anyone would cover that if we switched now?

Lastly, the real challenging question... If we move back to Aus is there a way to get this cover transferred? Or will I have to find a company there that will consider insuring even the 'pre-existing' conditions?

Any thoughts or tips welcome

Re: Changing insurance companies

I think you will find that most insurance companies won't cover for existing and pre-existing problems, it just isn't how they are geared up. Once you have made a claim under an existing insurance policy, you're best off sticking with that company (hopefully you have lifetime cover for conditions? Some companies weasel out by only covering conditions for a 12 month period - no damn good if you have a condition that is going to need cover for a long period!).

Having said all that, you might want to speak to a specialist insurer like Hiscox; I have no idea whether they have specific pet insurance packages, but they are the kind of company that might put together a bespoke package for you, which would include continuous cover when you return to Oz - wouldn't be cheap though, depends on your budget.

Re: Changing insurance companies

Thanks

My biggest concern is that if I wait too long to settle somewhere and the boys turn 8 then I'll struggle to find good coverage.

I know I'm pushing my luck to find somewhere that will take on Sybil and include her heart post scan but I was hoping the boys would be easier as they've only had gastro - not exactly a pre-existing condition imo but I guess it falls under illness I did organise life cover for them so that is at least one step in the right direction
