Feline Urinary System Blockage - recovery

Greetings,
My cat couldn't pee because he had stones in his urinary tract, so we took him to the vet to get them out. Now he is peeing, but the urine doesn't come out as much as it should have. The doctor said it is ok as long as he keeps peeing at all. But the problem is, that now his urine is dripping everywhere. For example, he sits on the couch and when we pick him up there is a urine stain on the couch and it smells badly because he was recently castrated and the smell hasn't disappeared yet.
1. How long does this dripping lasts?
2. When will the urine smell disappear?

Maybe someone has experienced this?

One of our's has had a few blockages but never leaked afterwards so cant help you sorry, but the last one he had the vets sent him home with some diazepam to make him relax. Maybe ring your vet & see what they say

No this is definitely not normal in the case of blockages. Did he have surgery to remove the stones? I would take him back to the vet. Sometimes a Urinary Tract Infection is responsible and if he was an a catheter then this is a strong possiblity.

It's vital as well you take steps to prevent further blockages as they can recur if changes aren't made. So wet food and plenty of fluids.

Well, the doctor removed some stones (sand) and put an catheter in his penis for a day and gave me some medicines

Re: Feline Urinary System Blockage - recovery

I had a cat who had a urinary blockage twice. I think that after the second occurance, he never really pee'd properly. He would go to the toilet but his urine would come out in drips rather than a stream. I decided it was probably phsycological, because if he decided to spray, as in marking a bush outside, then it would come out in a stream.

However, as he got older, and I mean around 18 years of age, and he made it to 20, he did seem to lose some control in his bladder and he started just dripping everywhere.

I would definitely get your checked for this, as I don't think this should be happening.
