Archie has Diarrea.

We have had little Archie for a week now.
When we bought him from the lady in Bath she gave us 2 tins of chicken wiskas in jelly.
So we have not changed his food we have just fed him on that for a few days.
Then we noticed he had Diarrea and so we gave him just white fish and chicken but it still didn't clear up.
We took him to the vets on Thursday and since then we have given him Gastro Intestinal from Royal canin which is suppose to be good for tummy problems and also a paste called Diar sanyl which the vet gave us. I have to give him twice a day.
He still has the Diarrea today and I am wondering if many youngsters get this and it will eventually clear up.
He is very lively and is drinking water. He is not dehydrated.
Do you think it could be due to stress moving from his breeder down to Bath and then 2 weeks later coming to live with us and also getting to know Chloe our other little cat?
They get on very well together.
some more pics of him

Re: Archie has Diarrea.

tbh this is quite common cats especially kittens can get upset tummy from a little stress and a new environment everything must be quite scary. I had this with most of mine that came to me and the thing that has worked has been probiotic you can buy this online at Animed - Dogs - Healthcare - Protexin Pro-Kolin Paste its called pro-kolin does wonders for their bellies have you changed the food at all

Re: Archie has Diarrea.

Congratulations on your new addition, he's lovely!

Yes, I agree there's every chance the stress of moving and a new environment has contributed to this as it weakens the immune system. However, there's also a chance he may also have a bacterial/parasitic infection ( again related to the lowered immune system when 'dormant' symptoms actually become evident ) and if it continued in spite of the RC food, this would be my next suspicion. In the meantime I would keep him on the food and if no improvement then a vet visit.

It's quite soft it doesn't soak into the litter.
Pale in colour but that could be the dry food he's on.
Will have another look when he does some more.
The litter Trays are Hubbys little Job So will have to have a quick look before he cleans them out!!

Re: Archie has Diarrea.

I've found that kittens can get a runny tummy when stressed - it's normal so feed just boiled chicken and the broth for at least 3 days if not a week. NO rice, no dry, nothing else food wise. If it doesn't clear up in that time then it's a vets visit. Yes to the prokolin etc.

Re: Archie has Diarrea.

You could maybe ask your vet about some purina forti flora which is a powder you sprinkle on food, this helps when Louie gets the runs it costs 75p a sachet from my vets If it dosent clear up it might be wise to get a stool sample sent off to rule out any parasites etc.
