Cant jump :(

This morning, Rowan went to jump on the side while I was doing their breakfast, but he fell back down. After he fell he just laid where he was and didnt try to get up.

He did get up and ate breakfast, I didnt notice a limp or anything (I made him follow me while I had his bowl so I could check)

He has been eating fine all day, but he wont jump.

He just went on the cat tree, but found a way to get up, like a staircase instead of climbing.

He tried to get on my lap while I was having dinner, and he did this by hooking his front claws into my thigh and scrambling with his back legs, but I had to help him (he isnt allowed on my lap at dinner time, but I wanted to check if could jump up)

This definitely isnt like him at all, I think I will take him to the vets in the morning, but I cant see a limp or anything, and I have felt all down his back legs and he purrs (which I know they can do if they are in pain) but no yelps or meows.

Any ideas?

Re: Cant jump :(

He may have just brused himself or tweeked a muscle but if your realy worried then take him for a check up

Louie took ages to jump onto high things when he was a kitten, like the kitchen units made up for it since he used to climb/scrabble onto chairs or the sofa, go to jump & not get anywhere near he also used to sit oddly to so I was paranoid that he had HD the same as Banjo but the vet said when they are young there is a bit of fluid round the joints & even if he did have HD she would't do anything to him untill he was older as cats manage much better than dogs but there is an op if he realy needed one to help with mobility, he is fine now & hopefully finished growing

Re: Cant jump :(

Rowan usually jumps everywhere, but he cant even jump on the sofa at the moment, he is scrabbling up

Hopefully its just bruised, so I will see how he is in the morning. They normally have a mad half hour around 9ish after breakfast, 300 mph everywhere, up and down the tree, up and over both the sofas, the coffee table etc.

Does HD just appear, or show symptoms suddenly? I hadnt even thought of that

Re: Cant jump :(

My cat Snaggle who went to live with a neighbour when he got badly bullied by Elvis once had similar symptoms, it turned out he had either been kicked hard, or attacked by a dog. He had torn his diaphragm and needed an operation to fix it. He was an free roaming cat though so open to more incidents.

Re: Cant jump :(

Poor Rowan, not really got any advice at all other than he may have pulled a muscle in his tummy area which is stopping him from jumping.Paws crossed it is nothing too serious and he is running about as usual soon.
Dally Banjo and MCWillow like this.

Re: Cant jump :(

Like the others, it sounds as if he hurt/bruised himself when he fell back down first time. Good though he's behaving normally otherwise but perhaps get him checked out by vet anyway, particularly if it persists.

Shadow And Lightning will become famous soon enough
Re: Cant jump :(

he sounds just like another lightning! happens all the time with the silly boy, but no underlying problem just always down to bruising, a bruised leg hurts when they jump more than when they walk i was told, lightnings usually sorts itself out over the course of the day.
