can any one give me some advice on treatment for ear mites, my british short hair has all the symptoms and on the net, adocate treatment keeps cropping up as a treatment but i have read bad things about it. how have others sorted this problem???? surolan ear drops have also popped up. has any one used any of theses treatments for ear mites?? thanx x

My dog had ear mites and I was advised by a vet to use Adovacate on both dog and cat.

i have not used advocate before and when i looked into it i saw lots of posts about where people were saying it killed their cats

Personally, I would take the cat to the vet to get a proper diagnosis. Might not be ear mites at all in which case you are using the wrong medicine to treat the wrong thing.

I've used advocate for fleas and worms but not ear mites - i think it is important you get a diagnosis and the correct stuff to cure it otherwise you could spend a lot of money and not actually cure the problem.

Years ago when I had a cat, he used to get them and Canaural ear drops always seemed to work, although it is vet/vet script only. Was a long time ago now though and pre spot on.

Still does and is often sold along with other treatments because owners don't realise they don't need a whole basketful of expensive products. It's unusual to find ear mites on a cat which is treated regularly with a good flea treatment.

I need to clarify my above post. Apologises, it was done in a rush, due to me having to leave.

Buster was prescribed Canaural ear drops and I was advised to use Adovacate as a preventive measure on both cat and dog.

best taking to the vet getting a proper diagnosis, when i first got my cats, they both had what i thought was ear mites by looking online at symptoms, but shadow had an ear infection which he needed a 2 week course of ear drops for, so dont always rely on internet

thank you every one. i have only had her a short while and my other cat has never had any thing like this before. when i got her i just thought her ears needing cleaning as they were like this when i got her. she has a vet appointment next week for a general check up and chip so will get her ears checked then
