Re: ear mites

I used to have advocate but my vets like stronghold better t is great clears ear mites up quickly. When dex came to me he was 6 months and had not been looked after properly he was riddled with them, his were so bad that he had to have his ears syringed at the vet but normally advocate or stronghold will work

Re: ear mites

Another vote for taking them to the vets here.

Re: ear mites

When my cat adopted us she had 'the worst ears' the vets had ever seen and was infested with ear mites from the straw in the barn where she used to live. The vets cleaned her ears and we haven't had a problem since using drops then advocate once a month. If you can't take your cat to the vets until next week, I'd suggest that a clean with a special ear-wipe or even a damp cloth (gently!) would help alleviate the irritation. x

my so called friend has accused my cats of giving her cat, mites, and she has also phoned another friend not to touch my cats, because of spreading. i know that ear mites are very contagious, and that you have to wash your hands after touching animals with ear mites in case of spreading it.

Re: ear mites

My on going ear mite a!!!! Does any one no how long till the problem has gone after using advocate?? The vets don't seem to tell me much. The cats are still shaking there heads, all be it not much, but it was much before. It's been 9 days now. They are due bac at the vets tomorrow but they seem more interested in a "genetic clicky knee" !!! I am sure visually their ears look cleaner?? Never ever had to deal with mites before. Getting another kitten in 5 Weeks and terrified that they get brought back in, although this time I want to check the baby over as good as I can and take to vets straight away just Incase!

To be really honest if it was me I would go back to the old tried and tested ways before spot on.
Firstly cleaning the ears with something like Epi- otic ear cleaner, this removes all the wax and dead skin and debris the adult mites eat. The life stage of a ear mite is approx 21 days. Usually the eggs are laid in the ear canal, but they can be present on othe parts of the body and in the cats bedding.
I would use good old fashioned Canaural always used to work, unfortuanately that is vet only or on line with a script I would use it personally for at least 21 days after cleaning the ear, then clean the ear again and then use the Canaural for at least another week or probably two to make sure you have eradicated the whole life cycle and there are none of the little critters to start it again. I would also wash all his bedding when you start the drops, then 21 days and then a couple of weeks later. Acclaim 2000 is great for flea infestations in the home and I think it does dust mites too, so might even do ear mites in the envionment, it kills about anything else creepy crawley wise usually too

When I had a cat the Ear cleaner and Canaural always worked.
