Re: Raw food Don'ts?
The "rule" is that you can give them 20% of their weekly meals as raw that is not properly balanced (i.e. that doesn't contain bone, meat and offal in the rightish proportions).
I would be careful with liver though; cats usually love it but only need a tiny amount (5% of their raw meal), which really is tiny! Contains lots of Vitamin A. Too much kidney can cause a runny bum and so can too much heart (loads of taurine though). |

Re: Raw food Don'ts?
Do Check Hobbs raw feeding guide for body part amounts and excellent overview of how to do things.
Theres very few don'ts I employ: Don't feed anything shop bought with a declared sodium content higher than 100mg per 100g, this is most often expressed in g rather than mg so if it says 0.12g thats too high and if it says something like 0.3g that is ridiculous and indicates that the meat has been enhanced in some way. Don't feed the same thing all the time, keep good variety of protein sources in prey body part proportions regularly or in reasonable rotation over a week or so. Don't feed fish too often or at all if you can get grass fed / pastured / naturally reared meat. |
