Does scratching = fleas?

Hi,

Our two kittens are five months old and have been with us just over three weeks now. We got them from a local shelter who defleaed and wormed them before we got them. I have checked both of them and I can't find any evidence of fleas on them. I've also checked their blankets and I can't see anything 'flea like'. BUT both of them will have the occasional scratch behind their ears and I'm worried that there's a possibility that they have fleas after all and I just can't see them.

My hubby to be says that they likely just have an itch like humans get, could this be the case?

I really really really don't want an infestation of fleas in our home!

Thanks for any advice xo

Hi. it could just be that they're scratching a random itch but I'd keep checking regularly for fleas. Not very easy to see if they are dark coated cats but you will find tell-tale signs of little black 'dandruff' like specks in their fur and in their bedding.

Hi There! Scratching could be from a number of things. Also , be reasonable. There is Normal scratching, and then the scratching the itch that won't go away scratching. If it is behind the ear scratching, make sure the ears are clean. If it is ear mites or yeasty ears the cat may present a sideways ear like she is about to scratch it and shakes her head, also ear may be very warm to the touch. If kitty was de fleaed then its prob not fleas.Make sure your cat is on a good diet, and feed it a rounded fish,chicken,turkey,beef,duck..ect diet of the same brand. Check out EVO,EaglePack,Blue buffalo,Orijen to name a few. It may cost 15-20$ for a bag,but your cat will get much more out of it,a healthy non-dry,itchless coat, and less likely to develope harsh illnesses later in life Trust me the money is worth it,and evens out when u notice you've had the dsame bag of food for over a month because kitty eats less and poops less because she's getting so much more out of the food.
Good Luck!!

Re: Does scratching = fleas?

Hi,

It could be that your kitties were flead a couple of weeks or so before you got them and as you have had then 3 weeks they would be due to be flead again.

Cats should be flead around every month...frontline is great stuff and is so much cheaper bought online.

Pharmacy 4 Animals.co.uk - Low Cost Prescription & Non Prescription Pet Medicines buy Fortekor, Rimadyl, Metacam, Frusemide, Drontal, equistro, Vivitonin, Vetoryl and much more. is a good one i use.

It could just be a usual itch but do remember they need fleaing regular.
