Best dry food to use as a supplement?

I know the consensus of opinion is that dry food is bad. But as a supplement, which one do people recommend? I've read that hills and well beloved are high in grain. What about the 80% meat foods that are on the market? What's the opinion on them?

Thanks.

Re: Best dry food to use as a supplement?

Two I'm looking at are Orjen and Applaws.

The applaws says no artifical colours or preservatives, and another one says no artificial flavour enhancers. Does that mean the Applaws could contain flavour enhancers and if so, how can I find out? Do they have to be listed in the ingredients?

Applaws also doesn't contain any artificial colours, flavouring or preservatives (though their site is currently down so cannot verify). Doesn't mean that it doesn't contain any "natural" colouring, flavouring or preservatives. They most certainly need the preservatives of some kind otherwise their food would spoil quickly but they will also need some flavouring of some description I think as the manufacturing process leaves the food quite bland.

You could always send them an email to find out what exactly they use if you are at all concerned.

Given the choice between the two, I personally would opt for Orijen or even look at Acana.
*Amber* and Chuppy like this.

Re: Best dry food to use as a supplement?

Thanks for that Hobbs. I'm a chef by trade and a proper foodie so I know my way around the nutritional side of things, what I do and don't want my cat to eat. I don't want flavour enhancers in my cats food like I don't want them in mine. Natural antioxidants, flavourings and colours I have no problem with.

I'll grab a bag of one of those now. Thanks again mate.

Wonder what happened with the lady that was taking MPM to court over the Applaws problem.

I stopped buying it after I read about that, and the bag I had went in the bin straight away.

JW is hypoallergenic which is good for both mine, as one throws up certain things (not sure what causes it) and the other gets UTIs on other dry and brings up his prescription food.

Not what I want to feed them, but what they can and will eat.
