How about stroking him with a piece of his bedding to get him desensitised?

Sorry, but that made me laugh! One of the girls I fostered a few years ago used to do this and it reminded me of her . She was the gentlest cat and absolutely loved to be groomed...but it was only possible with a soft brush or Furminator! If I used the grooming mitt she would turn into the devil! It wasn't malicious - I think because she couldn't see my hand she thought it was something to be played with (she used to latch on, bite and kick like she was playing with another cat). I quickly stopped using the mitt!!
