Feeding quails, poisson, etc. Small birds.

My little bengal monsters are now devouring chicken wings completely with ease. I was thinking of trying out quails or something next, Sainsbury's and my local butcher sell plenty of things like this. Quail, pheasant, partridge, poisson etc.

Anyone have any experience with these?

If they are happily chomping through chicken wings then they find any of these a doddle as the bones are much smaller. I would treat them as a "meal" though rather than a treat perhaps as they are a lot more "meaty". Perhaps consider giving half a quail or poisson at a sitting; pheasant is slightly bigger and you might get more meals out of it or be able to feed more than two cats at a time.

I personally prefer quail, woodpigeon etc to chickenwings for cats as they are more cat appropriate bones imo.

Thanks Hobbs,

besides checking for bullets.. is there any trick to preparing it (chopped in half?) or will they be alright with the whole thing?

Hmm, my amount of preparation of any of these really depends on my mood. It can range from "cut into two, plonk each bit on a plate and let them get on with it" to "taking the wings of and some general dismantling". Be guided by your cats!

Not bullets, but watch out for remaining shot pellets - they'll be small, black and round .
