need tips on de fleaing my house and also on flea colars??

hey all i treated my cat ages ago for fleas and she was clear and fine well when i got my other cat the previous owners had told me they had flead him a few days before so i belived them stupidly. i went to my petshop recently to get some more flea stuff as i had suspicions my cats had fleas and they werent helpfull at all so 2mrw i am going to my vets and gettin some from my vets. i now belive they never flead him at all as they sed the same to the other person that had the other cat and that cat has got fleas the new owner told me. My cats will be propperly done tomorrow cause im so angry i trusted this person and ive let my cats go around with fleas. also my one cat was clear so i asume shes caught them. my question is once ive flead my cats how can i thoroughly clean my flat to kill any fleas that might be still around and also can i put a flea collar on my cats after using flea stuff on them and will it prevent any more fleas that arent on them that might jump on them to die?? i thought if i thoroughtly hover my carpets and wash all my blankets on my sofas and their bedding even do my own bed as they sometimes sleep on there. i have a flea spray thing also it stinks but if it does the job i thought spray my sofas n curtains n bed and all my carpets and hover n spray their climbing pole would that be enough? is there anything else in my flat i need to clean. im so upset with myself i trusted this persons word my poor cats but now i am defo sure im not lettin this to carry on. my babies will not have fleas anymore. Also will a flea colar help inbetween flea treatments to avoid any more fleas? can i flea treatment and use a flea colar?

Don't bother with a flea collar, they are useless and ineffective at best and some are dangerous.

Your vets should be able to help you, if you have just the odd one then a decent spot on will most likely be enough, Advantage, Advocate and Stronghold are all effective products which provide cover for 30 days or so.
If you have an infestation then the house will need treating. Again, there are many products about but few that actually work, your vet should be able to recommend an effective product. Indorex is one I know many people have used successfully:

Indorex Household Flea Spray 500ml Can - £7.96

With these sprays be careful to follow the instructions, treat the whole house and do not use directly on your cat. Regular hoovering etc will help also.
