Chicken wings

I like the idea of the cats gnawing at a chicken wing to clean their teeth rather than having a fight. They only just about let me groom them. I put one down today and apart from a few sniffs it's been ignored. Any tips to get them interested (other than studding it with Katzinis)? I know some cats just don't want to know, but I at least thought Zarco would go for it as I've been successful with getting him to eat raw bits and pieces before.

Re: Chicken wings

I have two cats, a girl doesn't seem to know what to do with her teeth and a boy who is a true predator and loves his raw meat. Although the boycat wasn't keen on wings in the beginning either. With him, it helped cutting them apart (hope you're not sensitive about touching / cutting meat) at the joints so he could smell the meat and the blood. After that, he just started gnawing on one end of the bone and didn't stop until he demolished it in its entirety. Oh, and he seems to prefer them warm. I leave it out of the fridge for a bit or wash it in warm water.

The girlcat, however... she seems to have trouble connecting her teeth with food. :-) She will gnaw on chairs, marble windowshelves and toys, but not bones! She eats chunks of meat, but only if I'm hand-feeding it to her. If I just leave it out, she'll lick it and then ignore it. Watching her trying to eat a bone is scary because she doesn't seem to know she needs to crush it, and tries to just swallow it entire. So I'm not giving her bones anymore, just meat.

Re: Chicken wings

You could always try something a bit easier first - say some raw bite-sized chicken chunks, or even chicken / turkey mince.

When I first tried wings I cut them up a bit to loosen some of the meat, and rubbed crushed up treats (Thrive prawn treats) onto them to attract the cats. You can also try moving them around and try to gt the cats to pounce on them etc.
