Kitten Food Recommendation

I have been feeding my two 8 week old kittens on Whiskas wet and dry kitten food but I have been informed that this is 'junk' food and is not very good for the kittens as it is low in meat content.

I was just wondering if people can recommend a good wet and dry food suitable for 8 week old kittens.

Re: Kitten Food Recommendation

I am going to try my kittens on Applaws wet food, Smilla and Bozita to see what they like. Are they all good wet foods for kittens?

I was thinking about trying Applaws or Smilla kitten dry food? I know the Applaws is grain free but I am not sure about the Smilla. Any ideas?

Are these all good foods to try them on?

Applaws isn't a complete food so should only be given as an occasional treat as it doesn't contain all the necessary nutrients to be included as part of their regular diet. I used to give them applaws kitten dry occasionally if I thought I was going to be out for a while. Always gave them the runs though -so just invested in a timed feeder instead!

My two are on Smilla, Animinda Carny, Macs and Petnatur - all wet, they're now completely off dry and I've noticed a bug difference

Re: Kitten Food Recommendation

I was told the Applaws Dry food is complete but not the wet food. I am mainly giving them wet but like to leave dry down for them to graze on throughout the day but they don't eat lots of it.

Think I will try Smilla or Bozita wet and Applaws Dry or Smilla dry for them to graze on. Just not sure if Smilla wet and dry is a complete food.

Re: Kitten Food Recommendation

Applaws dry is complete, just not the wet. They may not need to eat much of it as it's 80% meat!

Re: Kitten Food Recommendation

try and see if you can get a small sample from the dry food company, see whether it gives them bad tummys or not, when i first got mine i made the mistake of purchasing a large amount of dry food, which gives them both really bad tummys, they are mainly on wet but i wanted to leave dry out for times when in uni for most of the day, but their stomach cant handle it and i had lots of dry food with no use ended up giving some to each of my sisters for their cats and the rest went to my vets who gave them to a shelter, so not a complete waste but now they have strictly wet maybe with a few dry food bits mixed in as i had a bit left but i wont be getting any more dry regardless of brand

Sorry, I meant to saw Applaws wet wasn't complete! Shame my two love Applaws wet so much and it's not complete - they gobble it all up in about 30 seconds then lose interest in their other food for a while So, have decided not to buy it anymore!

Re: Kitten Food Recommendation

Bozita and Smilla are both good choices for wet food. Animonda Carny is also a good inexpensive option.

Personally, I'd recommend Orijen for dry. It is expensive, but if they're only having a small amount, that makes it much more affordable. It's available in small (400g) sizes to try, and bigger bags for getting a lower price. I buy the 2.5kg bags and split each bag into 10 plastic containers, packed tight to avoid too much air getting in there. One bag lasts mine about 2 months, and the plastic containers keep it fresh.
