Re: New DAF supplier

There is nothing I can see on the site that says it is DAF produce, have emailed to check. Either way there is no mention of any additives so it will need supplementation.

I found them through the DAF website who listed them as their newest distributor. You only have to look at the names of the products and pack sizes to be able to tell it is too.

I used to supplement with taurine, salmon oil and occasionally liver, but that was back when all the boys ate was raw and then they refused the DAF so I gave up. Couldn't blame them from the stench.

The cats wouldnt eat it gskinner, I passed the rest onto a PF member who owned dogs. After hearing good enough reviews about DAF bought through other suppliers, I came to the conclusion something had gone wrong somewhere in the process between DAF and where I brought it from.

Re: New DAF supplier

Might look into this. I've been buying NI from local pet shop Pet's Corner but they're no longer doing it - not enough customers I bought all of the stock they had left. It would definitely work out cheaper using DAF minces and I don't think the NI is as good as it was when I first did the trials It often looks quite grey rather the lovely fresh meaty red that it was originally

Ah okay, thanks. I came to the same conclusion with the raw I was buying. I rang the manufacturer to complain/ask about the smell. They blamed the supplier on the basis that, going by the 'style' packaging, it was very old stock that the supplier was sending me. I personally think the the supplier wasn't their their delivery quickly enough/properly. Either way, it stank :/

I posted about this recently so I am glad it is not only me that has noticed this. It looks grey, and definitely goes 'stale' very quickly once opened. Mobile Petfoods very kindly replaced the whole of my last order with a fresh batch but it does not seem much better and I am throwing away more than gets eaten.
Sigh, it seemed such a handy, complete and GOOD product as well.

Re: New DAF supplier

Are the DAF meats not "complete" raw food then?

What makes me not use NI meats is this:

Natural Instinct: £2.00 = 450g
Lincs Pets (DAF): £0.53 = 454g

As Dante says, NI meats seem way over priced basing it on DAF minced beef (£2.65 for 5x454g). You're also paying more for less with NI minces as 2x450g isn't 1Kg but you are charged as if it is... if that makes sense?

Also, Dante, what supplier did you get your smelly meat from?

DAF minces aren't necessarily produced with cat's in mind - so the taurine levels are only from what is present in the food (those containing no heart/muscle meats lacking more than others) which will also decrease somewhat with the mincing process. The liver content is debateable, various members have received different responses from suppliers - the latest I read was something around the 2% mark, cat's require 5% in their diet. The rest of the ratios are a bit squiffy too, regarding bone and offal content etc. Contacting DAF yourself might be the best option for their word on this.

I understand completely why NI is more expensive, but when it comes to variation and the fact I'm only feeding the raw minces as one option I'm starting to wonder whether it's worth the extra cost.

I would only feed these now alongside the tinned food my cats get, I've decided I don't trust myself enough to get the rest of the balance right with the raw!

And the supplier I previously used was Raw to Go.

Spot on!

Would I just feed that stuff to my cat, no I wouldn't not until they become more apparent what is and isn't in that food.
