Allergy or poss ringworm?
We have been looking after my sisters dog and have literally just notied that sweetie has 3 small red spots on her back. More or less on her spine area.
We have also just changed the food she was on to an active adult cat at plus a different flavour to what she is used to. I am not sure if its simply a allergic reaction or the first signs of the dreaded RINGWORM ![]() The spots dont seem rough or scabby but look red as said above. I know that ringworm usually starts on the face so totally unsure on this one. As its now late friday night i cant book her into vets until Monday, unless i go elsewhere of course. And ideas |

Re: Allergy or poss ringworm?
The pictures aren't exactly the clearest so it's a little difficult to tell. If it's ringworm it should appear as a small red slightly raised ring more so than a spot, hence the name ringworm.
Is anyone else in the house showing signs of this as well? If it's ringworm it is highly contagious and anyone or anything that has touched the infected area is likely to contract it.

Re: Allergy or poss ringworm?
In that case my guess would be something other than ringworm.

Re: Allergy or poss ringworm?
Did you mean to say you are feeding your sisters dog adult cat food?
![]() Ringworm is quite contagious, so if no one else starts showing symptoms, it's probably not that, although there is a chance it won't spread. It doesn't always start on the face, either. I'd still get her checked for this. It could also be an allergy as she is in a new place, or it could be another parasite. Does it seem to be bothering her? Is it spreading? Re: Allergy or poss ringworm?
Not necessarily depends on whether the human is vulnerable for instance compromised immune system, elderly, child and it can take some time to develop not instantly. We 'rescued' a kitten who was badly infected with ringworm, it can develop on the base of the tail (spine) ears, face, paws and all over depending on how classic the ringworm case is. My husband got it, I didn't. For peace of mind, maybe get sweetie checked out just in case, is a quick test the vet can to confirm. From the photo, is difficult to say as there are other infections that can be mistaken for ringworm. I know one classic sign we had was the bald patches as the infection gets into the hair follicle. Hope this helps, Last edited by walkingcarpets; 21-01-2012 at 03:51 PM.. |

Re: Allergy or poss ringworm?
HAHAHAHA no i wasnt feeding my sisters dog cat food lol
The marks are not on the base of spine but centre. I have looked at images on the net and it does not look like any of these. Mind i think these look like more severe cases. |
