Hair Ball

Im new to all this as have only had tipsy a few months and he is our first kitty. This morning he came home and straight away I could tell he wasnt feeling well...He laid down infront of the fire and suddenly ran into the kitchen and made a really weird miaoww ive never heard this sound from him, I quickly went in to see what the problem was to find him being violently sick all over the kitchen floor..yuk..in the middle was this thing that looked like fur to me..I cleaned the mess up. but poor little tips still seems unwell..he has been sleeping all afternoon and his eyes dont seem so awake and bright. Im a bit worried but do you think that it was just the hairball that made him sick. Will he be sick again with hairballs or are they only sick now and than. Thankgod he did it in the kitchen floor and not in the louge..Any advice would be much appreciated. Thankyou Kyria xx

Re: Hair Ball

Not sure what to advise TBH.Usually a hair ball just comes up and thats it.Meeko has this problem ocassionally but unless he doesnt get it up he is usually fine afterwards. If he doesnt pick up I would either take him to be checked or at least phone your vet for advice.Hope he is okay, please keep us updated.

I would keep him in at the moment until he is either seen by your vet or is looking a lot better, just incase there is something wrong with him, better to be safe, there seems to be a lot of bugs going around.

Re: Hair Ball

If he still feels unwell and will not eat, there is something wrong with him. There may be another hairball stuck somewhere, maybe in his bowel.
Better let the vet check him. If there is a bowel obstruction, it will not resolve itself, it will need intervention.

Re: Hair Ball

Hi everyone, just to give you kind people an update about Tipsy. Today he seems much much better, he has started to eat again and seems to be more himself. So hopefully everything is ok with him now and maybe it was just the hairball and him being sick that made him feel so out of sorts. Im still wondering why he cried out before he was sick and if this is a normal thing..Anyway thankyou all again for your help and concern.. Kyria xx

Re: Hair Ball

he probably cried out because his tummy was feeling so awful, hence the need to be sick.
Sometimes one of my kittens will make a noise like that before producing a hairball, the older cats seem to know whats happening and just shuffle backwards ( making that lovely yacking noise) till the hairball arrives. Oh the fun of having long haired cats!

Re: Hair Ball

I have no experience or knowledge of this myself so I hope I'm not saying the wrong thing, but it's just something else to consider, along with the other possible causes already mentioned...

As he goes outside there are more opportunities to eat something he shouldn't - which may be toxic. You may want to find out more about what to look out for regarding symptoms of poisoning so you can act quickly if it seems like a possible cause - just a thought.

Glad he's ok now
