What now? Diarrhoea

So my kittens are coming up for 6mths old now and they've had diarrhoea from pretty much 8 weeks onwards Had two pooled faecal samples done which came back clear for the main parasites. So was using fibre diet and gastro diet to manage the symptoms along with pro-biotics and psyllium husks. Pro-kolin, diarsanyl, protexin professional, you name it I've tried it.

So recently had a more expensive PCR diarrhoea panel test done which came back negative for everything giardia, FIV, salmonella, campylobacter, TF etc. Only things positive were coronavirus and clostridium perfringens. Had further ELISA test for the clostridium enterotoxin which came back negative now I am at a complete loss. Vet is reluctant to precribe antibiotics but is not suggesting much else beyond kaogel

My cats normally have solid stools but seem to be having a nightmare with loose stools since my Queens got ill eating Applaws kitten food.

Any thoughts? TF is usually the answer but that's been ruled out. I've tried raw food which the kittens liked and couldn't seem to get enough of but it made the diarrhoea worse - more liquid.

Re: What now? Diarrhoea

This IS a long time! Have you noticed any positive response, however small, from any of the things you've tried so far?

Prolonged diarrhea like this in multiple cats sounds very much bacterial or parasitic in origin IMO. Any other signs ie weight loss etc. Stool consistency? Also don't forget that it's not uncommon for some positive infestations to return as negative in stool samples. What has vet said about the CP for instance and the enteric corona? Maybe these are responsible?

Not sure why your vet is reluctant to try antibiotics at this stage but I would certainly be interested to see if something like Metronizdole would make a difference. Use with probiotics should help to deal with imbalances in intestinal flora, if that's a concern.

BTW What food are they eating?

Like Ianthi, I think I would quite like to know what food they are eating and what food you have tried. When you tried raw, what meats did you try? Have you ever tried to feed them something that they have never had before, such as horse, buffalo or perhaps even venison?
