worms...

Hiya.. I have 4 cats, 3 of which i got in december. I noticed last night one of them had white worm coming out of his rear. So obviously he needs worming.
But i'm wondering if i should worm the others too. I dont know when they were last wormed
- could i cause them harm if i worm them too soon after their previous one?

Also, frankie, the cat who definately needs worming doesnt eat meat. He's a biscuit only cat and turns his nose up at meat..
- So any ideas on how to get the tablet down his neck? Usually i would mix it with wetfood but obviously thats not gonna work here.

And the final thing, i know they get worms from eating fleas... They were all outdoor cats before they came to me, so they potentially do have fleas and i wont be able to address that problem untill weekend when i get payed.
- question is, if i wormed them now is there a chance of them being reinfected before i can give them a flea treatment at weekend, or should i just wait and do both at the same time?

Re: worms...

I would worm and flea them all regardless (at the same time). The worst that might happen is a bit of diarrhoea. As for tableting, would he take it in a treat? Chicken or tuna? If not you can buy pill poppers which are very useful.

Re: worms...

alright thanks, i'll give both treatments to all of them on saturday then. Feel guilty leaving it 4 days but seems theres no point worming without deflea'ing.
I will try to give frankie his tablet in a treat, i've seen him eat ham before so can try that.

Re: worms...

Sounds as if it could be tapeworm so make sure you use a product which will treat this as well as roundworms. The easiest way would be a spot on treatment from your vet. It may seem expensive but I guarantee it will cost you more in the long run if you try and cut corners for some perceived saving buying cheap, over the counter products.

Re: worms...

i already have 4 drontal for cats tablets so will try that before splashing out on spot-ons from the vet. Drontal is pretty trustworthy in my experience and it says round and tapewormer on the packet.

Re: worms...

One of our kitties is a master at refusing pills, the vet can't get him to take them either. I have found that the easiest way to get him to take the worming tablet is to mush up a really small amount of cheese and form it round the tablet. My two both adore cheese and this seems to work a treat, although if the pill refuser doesn't eat it quickly enough he sometimes still manages to spit the tablet out, cue many bad words from me!
