Good News...but your advice/opinions needed please!!

So, took the kits to the vet today for check up after bad diarrhoea which has got slightly better after medication but still very runny poop from them both.

She thinks they've had an infection which has left them very sensitive to normal food and gave me some Royal Canin sensitivity control pouches which I started them on this morning...then I've just cleared the litter tray and found my first "log" in weeks!!
Am dead chuffed but worried that they will need this food forever!! I had already ordered from zooplus some animonda which is on its way but will i be able to feed them this?? also bought some natures menu while i wait for it but daren't give them this either?
should I cook some chiken for them or something like that or is it best to trial and error? I just want them to be better and be able to play with them without fear of getting pooped on!
Your advice would be much appreciated
Thank you

Hi and welcome to PF!

Flora, it's important for us to know the age of the kitties, the type of infection (in the intestines, I suppose), any blood present, if so, what colour, any mucosity in their poop, etc.

Don't worry about that now, I've been there with my girl when she was very young and I thought as you, that she'll always be on this diet. Believe me, your kitties will be fine and things will be back to normal, if you follow your vet's advice and treatment.
I believe that the present menu should be (very) boiled rice with boiled chicken breast, all together, well mixed, almost like a pate.

Good luck! And just remember that little kitties dehydrate very quickly if they have runny poops.

Well they are about 14 weeks, don't know what type of infection really, at first it was really bad diarrhoea I saw blood twice in the tray only but now it has solidified more and no mucus at all has been present. They always have fresh water down and they are very very lively!

Hi there Flora, I would personally stick to the Royal Canin for a little while, but then mix in the food you've purchased as though you are weaning them off the Royal. You will know pretty quickly once you've finished on the pouches whether or not the other food is causing the diarrhoea.

In the meanwhile, adding in some rice and chicken to the diet will be fine for them. Just make sure they are watered!

How old are your kittens and have you considered mixing some dry food in with their meat?

Hope they are back to full kitten fabulousness soon and you are back to playtime.

Thank you for your advice, they have been on the royal canin for 3 days now and the improvement is huge, i'm really happy! They are 14 weeks old now and mental! I will buy some more of this food to keep them on it a bit longer and also add some chicken and rice then try the new better quality food as you seggested, thanks again
