Cystaid is a "natural" product containing glucosamine to help reline the bladder.
he is oin a mixture of royal canin wet and dry for unirary support as prescribid by the vet. Yes they found some crystals last time and this time lots of blood in bladder. They are talking about operating tomorrow which will make his privtes more like a girls and should solve the problem, I shall be asking for more info if this goes ahead.

Re: cat with constant UTI

Good luck for your little mite tomorrow. Let us know how the op went. I would err on the side of caution and just keep him on wet food from now on; even if the dry is prescription food. The moisture helps to keep the bladder flashed out, which can only be a good thing in cats that are prone to UTIs.

Re: cat with constant UTI

If you have Struvite crystals then Hills S/d helps disolve them, then move onto C/d to maintain the right ph.
Water fountains can also help as cats often pref to drink from a running water source. This will help flush kidneys etc and aid in urinary tract health.

Re: cat with constant UTI

I was going to enquire about the type of crystals as well given the two types - calcium oxalate and struvite. Agree with completely wet food and increased water consumption and Cystaid to help with bladder wall inflammation.

Given the short space of time have the vets considered a bladder stone? This could well explain the recurrent blockages. You need an X-ray to confirm and if calcium oxalate surgery will be required to remove it. It's very possible this is the case.

I would try and see if you can resolve it through diet ( some cats do eventually 'grow out' of it ) before considering the last resort surgery as this isn't always successful, unfortunately.

Re: cat with constant UTI

+1 on the water fountain, I'v one for my UTI prone cat (stress is her trigger). +1 on the wet food too, I mix some water into her wet food too to further increase water intake.

Re: cat with constant UTI

You might want to try d-mannose. It has worked very well for my 14 year old Siamese. I have used it for myself many times, also.

Re: cat with constant UTI

Agree about the Waterfall D Mannose .... that stuff is AMAZING!

It has totally cured my years of chronic, debilitating cystitis and am sure it works the same way in animals. Definitley worth a try.
