Had Milly and Tilly to the vet for their health check and worm/flea treatment.
When checking over Tilly she noticed that one of her eyes was quivering slightly and she may have Nystagmus. I have googled this and it is quite common in Siamese and Ragdolls and any other colourpointed cat. Other than this eye quivering which you really have to look at to see it she's fine eating, drinking, pooping, no vomiting and no balance problems. Has anybody else got a cat with this condition?

Re: Totally gutted
Sorry no, but I hope she is managing and is happy. Hopefully Ianthi will be along and can help.

Re: Totally gutted
Interestingly enough my sister's first colourpoint had this too. It only affected one eye. It certainly never bothered her.
My understanding is that with certain breeds like the above, it is considered a genetic feature (normal) and this trait requires no correction. Sounds as if this is the case here with Tilly. However, it's a different matter entirely if a cat not born with the conditon suddenly develops it later in life, as this indicates a more serious ( and different ) problem. |

Re: Totally gutted
Thank you all for your responses.
Ianthi nice to know that your sisters had it too and it didn't bother her. It certainly doesn't seem to be bothering Tilly. On Tilly you really have to look to see it, in fact you have to hold her head back and pull her eyelids up like they did at the vets. Looking at her normally it is not noticeable. I have seem clips on you tube where it is more severe. Vets were on about putting her through loads of tests, I would do this if it was affecting her everyday like or it seemed like the cause was more than genetic. I presume she must have had it since birth and neither me or the vet have noticed before. I would have thought if it had come on suddenly that she would have other symptoms, head tilt, constantly shaking her head, cluminess, vomiting and loss of balance. As I am typing she is currently chasing her sister round the house ![]() Again thanks for your comments. Jo

Re: Totally gutted
This is just my opinion based on what Ianthi said - but I wouldn't put her through the run of tests - print out what you have found for the vet and leave it with him.
If you can't cure it and it isn't going to harm her why put her through the stress of tests?

Re: Totally gutted
Don't worry Spid I will not let the vet do any tests as it would be stressful for her. It does not seem to bother her at all, in fact she is the more forward of the two, she is also not backward is coming forward when it comes to her giving me an alarm call in the morning, she will bite my butt check
) till I get up.Another thing they did mention was that both cats weigh too much 2.94kg and asked what I was feeding them on I said Bozita, Smilla and RC Kitten 36. She said we don't want to get them fat so just feed dry food!!! ![]() When I mentioned Bozita and Smilla she sort of had the expression WTF ![]() This advice I'm not taking any notice of either ![]() I hate that Vets have the ablity to make you feel like you are failing your animal in some sort of way, just to get more and more money out of you. ![]()
