My cat mungo is now down to 2.7kg , she eats like a pig so I'm thinking it could be something to do with her thyroid or diabetes as she is 14/15 years old now

Might be thyroid one of ours had both his removed at 15yrs & has been like a kitten since but a blood test is the only way to find out if your cat is sufferning with that to.

Yes, given her age and symptoms this does sound like hyperthyroidism. Left untreated this can actually damage other vital organ including the heart so best to get it under control now.

She has a vets appointment at 2 today. So fingers crossed she is alright

If she has the medication for it works very well we opted for the op though it was hard work getting pills into Simba good luck.

She has a nasal problem so she would defo have to have the meds.

There's also a radioactive iodine treatment (I-131) that could be an option for her instead. Pilling a cat twice daily is no picnic and only manages the problem.

Hi my cat was diagnosed with hyperthyroid last month, we opted for the radioactive iodine treatment, he went up to Glasgow vet university small animal hospital and went on the treatment, he should be out of the unit next week, we opted for this becouse surgery is very tricky and the vet at glasgow was not keen on this, also the tablets just keep it at bay, but the iodine treatment is 97% total cure, but it can have side effects, we opted for this coz it is less invasive on the cat.http://www.petforums.co.uk/images/Sm.../001_smile.gif
