New Cat not Pooping

G,Day Guys

I just got a cat from the cat protection league. Her previous owners didnt take care of her all that well and she was rescued in a house with 4 tom cats who got her pregnant.Any way I adopted her 32 hours ago she has been for a wee a few times, seems happy but cautious due to the new surroundings but hasnt pooped and she is eating fine.We gave her 1 sachet of Felix per day split into 2 meals approximately 12 hours apart but we also include a portion of James Wellbeloved Biscuits with each meal as she enjoys them...

She is also getting used to having no kittens around her too which must be difficult for her.I dont think I should be worried as She will probably just poop when she is ready and would hopefully show some signs of discomfort if there is something wrong. She did go to the vets just before she came to us via the Cat protection league maybe I am just worrying over nothing and this is normal?

Anyway any advice would be great I have been known to be a paranoid pet owner

Re: New Cat not Pooping

Hey welcome to the forum and congrats on your little rescue mite.

Probably still settling in - some cats get the runs, other get constipated and others aren't affected at all I guess.

Did she get biscuits too in the rescue, do you know? Sometimes when cats aren't used to kibble it constipates them. Particularly when they don't drink.

Also, are you sure you are feeding her enough wet food? One pouch a day doesn't sound like a lot (given the feeding recommendation is something like 3-4 pouches), which means that she will need to eat a lot of dry to get her nutrition.

Perhaps give her another pouch or two tomorrow and reduce her kibble. Would you even consider getting rid of the dry completely and just feeding wet? So much better for cats really.

Hope that helps

Re: New Cat not Pooping

I would consider getting rid of the dry food but sometimes when I am out at work for 9 hours I like to leave a little Dry food down in case she gets hungry.I will increase the Wet Food and see what happens we have been feeding her 2 packets of wet which she eats quicker than I can put it down so she must be hungry hahaha she actually cleans the bowl she doesn't leave a drop of food.

The vets say a diet of Dry food only is best however my cat lived till she was 15 and my girlfriends cat lived until she was 17 they never ate any dry food at all.I think the market is full of dry food these days but I have heard so many terrible things about dry food and no "Real" health problems caused by Wet food.

The problem with cat nutrition is that nobody knows whats best for sure...

Thanks for the help mate I guessed that she was just settling in so pleased you agree. If she hasnt pooped in a 2 days I will seek something to help her poop

Forgot to mention she is a totally indoor cat so nutrition might differ

Re: New Cat not Pooping

Most vets recieve thier nutritional knowledge from the likes of hills & royal canin who, as we know, have vested interest, so always take their advice with a grain of salt, and do your own research.
