I can feel he is going down hill. I asked about Lyme disease, it is not classic symptom again because it affects oth sides the same. he has pain above his tail on his spine. I worry that he has a cancer in the spine or itis still a threat thatis is a blood clot. he has just coughed up foam and it had tiny flecks of what look like liver, mwhen rubbed on paper they turn red. I am worried that this is the end starting. he is drinking lotsof water and will go for a wee. I am just afraid we are running out of time for him now.
I can only reiterate what I've already said that's it's impossible to know exactly what is wrong with your cat in the absence of any diagnostic tests so I'm not at all surprised this vet (or others for that matter ) doesn't know for certain what the problem is. However, they must have some ideas worth pursuing.....even I, a mere layperson, have come up with some possibities!! If every vet demonstrated this type of inertia no animal would ever recover! It's one thing to not know what's wrong but quite another to just make no effort at all while your cat is at risk of deteriorating is scandalous in my view!

The quicker you get him to someone more proactive the better....a vet with more determination to get to the bottom of this is what you need.

The frothy liquid is most likely just stomach acid which forms on an empty stomach and the 'liver' sounds like effects of acid attacking the stomach lining. You really must get proper some food into him.......try syringe feeding him small amounts of pureed food-always into side of mouth! Lack of food is most likely contributing to his general malaise. He'll need all the strength he can to give him the best chance.

When is the city appointment?

Re: cat paralysed rear legs with both lymph nodes swollen, please help

I'm afraid this is the problem with rural France, pets are not as well looked after here as cattle. another problem is that the vets are closed from Saturday afternoons so we have t make the appointment Monday morning, hopefully they will see us that day, we wait and see. I will try and feed him some food tomorrow, I know what you mean he needs the strength to fight. we did discuss Lyme disease and he told me that the antibiotic he was giving him would treat Lyme if it was the case, we just continue with the antibiotics. tomorrow is Sunday so nothing will get done, I will just try and nurture him as much as possible to get him to see the other vet as soon as we can.

thanks everyone for reading and suggesting, It really helps hearing from you all.

Just caught up with this thread. I am so sorry to hear about your cat, and am keeping everything crossed that he improves over the weekend. I feel so frustrated on your behalf.

Your vet has a duty of care to all animals he encounters not just the majority species which make up his practice. He should at the very least be able to refer you on to someone else who can help.

Yes, I did wonder about the antibiotics but of course with the steroids it's difficult to know which medication he's actually responded to. However, good to know he's still on them to try and cover all bases.

Re: cat paralysed rear legs with both lymph nodes swollen, please help

It is with great sadness that I had to have my cat put down this afternoon. He went downhill rapidly overnight, he had simply lost the will to go on, leaving him like that was cruel. He would only drink water and then vomit it back with blood. He had lost his sparkle, no longer wanted fuss and his eyes were empty. Upon seeing our vet his temperature had dropped considerably and he was in a lot of pain in his rear. Sadly we will never know what was wrong with him. I knew the time was right. If I had seen an improvement in every other aspect other than the paralysis I would have carried on, he was just going downhill fast. Our vet was very kind and he didnt suffer at all, it was very quick. I do feel that our vet was caring for our cat and had referred us to another vet in the city, maybe we should have gone sooner, we simply thought he was getting better little by little thursday and friday, by saturday he was on his down and it was too late.

Thank you all for your help on here, I will return soon in the hope that maybe I can help someone like you have all helped me.

My family has rescued many cats over the years, some of them are pets in our home, some of them are like family, this one was my friend, he will be dearly missed.

Ame71a, I am so sorry. It is the hardest decision we have to make as petowners, but we do it for the very best of reason, and hopefully you can take comfort in that knowledge. I hope that before long you will find another cat to become your friend, but still have wonderful memories of the cat you have just lost. Take care.
