Could my kitten be deaf?

Hi there,

I have a six month old kitten who i think may be deaf. He does not seem to know his name yet (even though I have had him since he was 10wks old) and I have also noticed that he does not seem to notice loud noises. He is also a very quiet kitten. I have two other cats of 1yr old and they are very vocal but I have only heard Milo a couple of times and when he does meow it is very quiet. This morning, when I got up he was sitting on my window sill looking out, the blinds were closed so I made a loud clapping noise but he did not even move a muscle and continued to look straight out of the window.

Does anyone have any advice on this? This would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

Aww that is such a shame. I think the only way you will know is by taking him to the vets!! Fingers crossed it isn't the case though... good luck

Hi it sounds very much to me that your furbaby could well be deaf not sure if your vets could tell you, have you tried him with his food normaly when the cats hear you in the kitchen dishing up their food they are there in a flash try rattling the tins and shaking his dry food see if he come to that, but i think maybe his world will be a silent one bless him x

Re: Could my kitten be deaf?

Thanks for your replies,

I am not sure about the food as he always follows my other two cats into the kitchen! So he may just be guessing there is food, or maybe he can smell it! He is very close to my cat George and follows him everywhere! I am now worrying as he is let outside and thinking he may not be able to hear the traffic! He has never gone out of the garden but he might one day!

I will book an appointment with my vet for today and hopefully they will be able to tell mem for sure.

Thank you once again

x

Re: Could my kitten be deaf?

My brother had a deaf cat and she use to come when you banged the floor. She was the same in every way a normal cat. She loved any thing that moved may be her eyes took over. My brother decided she was best a house cat because of the risk of traffic

Re: Could my kitten be deaf?

Glad you mentioned the housecat bit Teresa. I would'nt recommend a deaf cat being allowed out to free roam. Hopefully your vet can confirm or deny wether your kitten is deaf or not Lorit

She had odd eyes which is common along with being deaf and white. Beanie bop was her name.
