Booster injections - chlamidia ? Question

Must be popular time for boosters - sorry if been asked before

Our two are due to have their booster jabs. When we had them, they were done through cp and their vets, which covered panleucopenia, chlamydiosis, herpesvirus calicivirus, and feLV.

Ok, so if we take them back to cp they do all, but if you want the leukamia inclusion then injection is dearer - nice vets and do own out of hours

The vet which we used to take our old cat to is a nice vet and again do own out of hours, but in their jab they dont do the chlamydia part but they tell me it is compatible to what they have had previously (which is fevaxyn pentofel). This is where we are now registered with for our two now.

Both these charge in range of 30.00 to 40.00 per cat.

Now added to that, ive found 2 vets which do vacs for life, one is Budget Vets which cost 89.99 per cat - non chlaymida as well but if we use these for vacs, we have to use them all the time, their out of ours is Vets Limited (not vets now) ( which is V.E.T.S which from my reading is accredited with RCVS) they have quite a few clinics round our area, and the out of ours is used by a wide range of other vets in our area.

The other one i found is vets4pets, which will if wanted order in the previous injection and they do vac 4 life at 99.00 per cat - they have said that i can use them for jab and still keep with my other vets for other treatment if needed - the only thing is that they are about 25 miles away

Silly question, but both cats are innies, is the chalmydia part if the jab really necessary

Am really in a stew about what to do, any thoughts/ info appreciated

Thanks Clare x

Re: Booster injections - chlamidia ? Question

Pentofel is supplied from the manufacturer as an all inclusive vaccine which happens to include chlamydia. There is no problem with changing vaccines for boosters, it's a case of what you prefer. Clamydia is unlikely and treatable so maybe not as important as the core vaccines. Where you are being quoted extra for the leukaemia it means the vet is mixing two different vaccines in the surgery so you would be charged for both separately. You are lucky that the vet let you know this in advance as many simply include it without asking and it does bump the cost up. If a vaccines for life agreement allows you to choose your preferred vaccine I think it may be a good deal as long as you aren't going to move anytime soon. I'd imagine the idea is to get people to pay up front and those who don't return subsidise the regulars.

Re: Booster injections - chlamidia ? Question

Chlamydia isn't a core injection over here, either because it's largely unnecessary and that would especially be the case if you cats are indoor. I let Bruno have the chlamydia jab and he was so unwell afterwards, had he still been alive, I would never have bothered again.

Re: Booster injections - chlamidia ? Question

My two got the Chlamydia shot with thier first vaccination (due to a miscommunication they got an F4 rather than the F3 I wanted), and the vet we saw for their first booster shot (same practice different vet) advised giving them the same vaccine for that one as well (was even from the same batch as it turned out), which as they hadn't had any adverse reaction too I was happy to do. I've yet to decide if they will get the F3 or F4 as their 12 month booster, after that, I don't think I'm going to bother; unless circumstances change the risk of my boys contracting it is very minimal, and treatment is highly effective if the worst happens and they are unlucky.
