Exclamation Just discovered bald spot on kitten??!!

Hi everyone,

Was just stroking Basil (one of our 5 month old kittens) and noticed a bald spot on him! Pictures are attached so you can see what am talking about. The skin seems pretty scabby and a clump of fur came out as well

Both kittens have been wormed (a few weeks ago with Milbemax), and they've been treated with Advocate twice now. They're also indoor kitties.

I will call the vet to see if we can get an appointment tomorrow - but does anyone know what it could be?

Haven't seen him over grooming to be honest and can't think what he would be allergic to in the house! We don't have plants. It's looking like ringworm, but don't understand why if they've been wormed and don't go outdoors

Ringworm is not a "worm" but a fungal infection. So, a wormer has no effect. To make matters worse, it is highly contagious and can be transferred to humans. It typically starts on the head though I believe. Ringworm in cats

Hard to say from those two pics what it is. He could have had a rough and tumble fight with your other cat and it isn't anything more sinister than that.
I know you have just come back from hols. Who looked after the cats when you were away? Did they notice something? Did they feed something that he could have reacted to? Did they use anything you wouldn't normally use and he is reacting to it?

For your peace of mind I would definitely take him to the vet to see what's what though.

Let us know how you get on!

Have never come across ringworm ,luckily, but it I do know that it has nothing to do with worms, its a fungal skin infection and is very easily passed to humans and other species. Cat Ringworm (with photos) - Symptoms & Treatment of Ringworm in Cats - Cat-World,hopefully it isnt that.

Yeah sorry about the pics - hard to tell with his dark fur!

My OH looked after the kitties while I was away at home and the only thing that had changed was that they were being moved from Whiskas kitten to Applaws dry (which we're phasing out as you know!), he gave them both their Advocate treatment as well.

I've had what I thought were small patches of excema on my temple and my ribs for the past couple of weeks (I suffer from bouts of excema sometimes) but having looked at pics of ringworm in humans it's looking pretty suspicious

Fingers crossed the vet has space tomorrow...
