Blockage somewhere - nothing
Nasal polyps - no

Nasty - no
Alergy - Nothing new in the house except different cat litter

He had two weeks of AB's & some other stuff - will get the name for you

Anyway he was a bit better after two weeks but started again a week or so later so is back on the pills I cant mem the name of so hopefully that will sort him out

I have changed the cat litter to a dust free one but that did'nt make any difference either so hopeing the pills will sort him out.
Sounds very similar indeed. I'll be interested to know the name of the medicine.

I'm soo glad to hear you've consulted with a specialist here before going ahead with any invasive treatment-frankly I would never allow a general vet to go ahead with an FNA procedure like this and even then only when all other less invasive avenues have been explored.

I always make the point that X-rays have their limitations are only as good as the person who 'reads' them and with few exceptions (in this instance especially) need to be interpreted by a specialist. Things like shadows for example can very easily be misinterpreted. Furthermore often a few films need to be taken in order to obtain the correct diagnosis.

Sounds to me something is irritating the bronchial passages and I wonder if something in the environment could be a trigger? Any smokers for instance?
Lungworm?
It was the vet who referred me to the specialist but on the basis of the wrong x-rays. When the specialist showed me the x-rays it was immediately evident that the other cat had two large pulmonary masses, poor thing. She said that she would not anyway have done a biopsy on Max unless she had been able to find a mass by ultrasound.
Yes, it does sound like a bronchial cough but it only occurs every few days. Most of the time he is fine so I doubt that lungworm would be the cause as that usuallys makes a cat morose. Cat litter dust is certainly a possibility as Max is the sort of cat that comes indoors to go to the toilet, even in the summer.

Re: Cat sounds like a car horn

Prednisolone 5 mg Tablets they are a steroid but hopefully will help. Scutter is nearly 14 & apart from his urinary problems never been ill so all a mystery nothing unusual aboout that with this lot I'l let you know if he starts to improve on them again

Re: Cat sounds like a car horn

Ah yes, that's an anti-inflammatory steroid used for treating a wide range of conditions such as asthma so I would expect it to help with a bronchial cough. I hope it works out for Scutter.
It usually needs weaning off gradually to avoid a rebound effect. If the normal dose is one per day, at the end of the treatment, instead of just stopping, you need to give half a tablet for a few days then quarter for another few days then a quarter every other dayfor a few days and then stop. Talk to your vet and see if he/she agrees and can give you the right number of pills to do that.

Re: Cat sounds like a car horn

I thought that when he had them with the AB's but asked the nurse & she said no but she also said that the AB's could be given 1x3 a day instead of 1half twice a day which was'nt right will ask the vet on monday when Im there, but Im sure she said if they helped then he could stay on them & they would also help with the arthritis in his neck not that it seems to be bothering him at the mo

Yes, that's a good point. It may well be that he needs to stay on low dose Prednisolone for the rest of his life.
