Feline Acne

Ok so i think my gorgeous little Kami has acne
I originally thought she had flea dirt on her chin and then realised i had already dosed her with stronghold

Not to mention i checked the rest of her (bearing in mind she is pretty white its not hard) and this black flea dirt looking stuff is only on her chin.

Does this sound like feline acne?

Re: Feline Acne

Wouldn't want to diagnose over the net but sounds similar to what Holly gets and she has feline acne (undiagnosed, but researched it myself). I think as long as it isn't causing any stress or pain there's not a lot the vet will do about it.

Re: Feline Acne

yeah i suspected as much it drove me crazy cause i got it off then it was back i was obsessing over it then thought it could be FA looked it up looks identical luckily its the mild form, i suppose the worry is that it can develop from there but i may get the vet to look just to see if there is anything she can do she is due for her 'special procedure' at the vet which im dreading lol so i can ask and make the appt at the same time.

What do you do for Holly's just clean it?

Re: Feline Acne

I use a very weak solution of Hibiscrub and a cheap baby's toothbrush to gently scrub the area clean, should clear it up in a couple of days. I presume you are using glass or china bowls for food and water as plastic dishes can be a cause. I think we notice it more on the pale cats ...or the greedy ones who stick their face into the food to hoover it up quickly!
Peter Galbavy and raggie doll like this.

Re: Feline Acne

I wouldn't waste an expensive cat finger/toothbrush for this, they cost a fair bit. The toothbrush I used cost 10p from superdrug!

Re: Feline Acne

Henry gets it from time to time, and I just scratch them off as best I can with a fingernail. He thinks he's getting awesome chin scratches, so he likes it. Then I follow up with a acne pad for people. Stridex is a popular brand over here, but I don't know if you have them over there or not. That he's not so keen on, but it clears it up. It's weird. His sister, who is just as white on her face, never gets it and I've never seen it on any of the other cats (although not being white, it wouldn't be really noticeable).
