Food recommendations for Siamese mix
Hello!
I've read around on this forum and other sites but because each cat is unique I thought I'd start a new thread for my cat Rumbles! He's a siamese cross breed with a short hair, although if you looked at him you would just think siamese. He's just over a year old now, full of life and healthy. However, over the last month or two he's started showing signs of intolerance to certain foods and I'm struggling to find the right one for him. He only eats dry food (through his choice!) and was always on Whiskas dry. In October he started vomiting this back up every night. He seemed fine but I of course took him to the vet in case it was something serious. So we tried him on Royal Canin sensitivity control. This cleared the problem up immediately. Because it's a bland food the vet recommended then moving him onto another type of food gradually, which I did, to Purina dry food. He seemed fine for a few weeks but now he has diarrhoea. He doesn't really like the sensitivity food and I'm conscious of not putting him on this forever unless necessary. I went back to the vet and they've now recommended Hill's i/d Gastrointestinal Health. So... Before I try this (and move him to yet another food) I wondered if anyone has any ideas of recommendations for other foods I could try him on? Thank you and happy New Year! Jack |

Re: Food recommendations for Siamese mix
If he really won't eat anything but dry (and I really really would try to get him to eat wet - see the stickies at the top of this section) then try a grain free variety, Acana, Orijen or Applaws.

Re: Food recommendations for Siamese mix
As per spids post I personally would persist more with a wet food but if you are going to stick with dry I would perhaps be inclined to try chicken applaws first. Whilst maybe not quite as good as orijen it contains a single protein source so may be better for intolerances. It's also readily available and as per another post pets at home have a very good offer on it at the moment. Don't just change fully straight away, mix it in slowly with the current food or preferably the sensitivity control if you have any.
Another thought, if he doesn't take to the other foods then another worth considering may be James wellbeloved duck and rice, which isn't as high quality as the other brands mentioned (but better than those previously being fed), it is however most like the rc sensitivity food and many people do use it successfully for cats with intolerances. Re: Food recommendations for Siamese mix
I know when both these were spayed I got a little bag of royal cannin for spayed cats,
I still get royal cannin for them, when I order it on line there are quite a few different breeds one of them being for Siamese cats, hope this helps |

Re: Food recommendations for Siamese mix
Thanks everyone, I will try him on the James Wellbeloved first, mixing it in - I saw on another post a siamese owner found this to be a good food when their cat was showing the same problems.
I have really tried with wet food but he immediately tries to bury it when I put it out... That's what I've been dealing with Thanks again, really appreciate all of your help - Happy New Year to you all! |

Re: Food recommendations for Siamese mix
Hi Cloudy Girl!
I've always changed foods very gradually (except when he's been ill to move to sensitivity). He seems to be OK on James Wellbeloved but I'm going to take your advice and try him on some Orijen, you're right, it does seem odd feeding him grains. If it makes him unwell, I'll switch back to James Wellbeloved. He does eat cooked chicken - he goes mad for it! But that's quite a pricey regular meal. I have tried him numerous times on wet food but he just tries to bury it! Is there any that smells a bit nicer?! I think that's what's putting him off. Thanks for all of your help. Jack |

Re: Food recommendations for Siamese mix
I have always found fussy cats can never refuse cooked prawns
![]() Try hand feeding them as a treat, at least he may get used to eating wet food, and then mix a couple of prawns with a little wet food and gradually increase the wet food and decrease the prawns. |
