Sick Kitten From France - Update

Hi everyone, I posted a few days ago about my Chartreux kitten at a breeder being sick...I traveled to France to see it and discuss its health with the breeder.

As per your advice, I sought the advice of an independent vet here and called the breeder demanding she brought my kitten to a different vet to seek a second opinion considering my kitten was still suffering from a high temp a week after it first got sick. She agreed to do that and since last night my kitten was diagnosed with PIF and dying...

I am absolutely devastated... I was so much looking forward to welcoming him home. I am going this afternoon to see the breeder and take it from there.

Wish me luck

xxx

That is so sad. I'm glad you will at least get to say goodbye to the kitten, but I'm so sorry that you have to say goodbye before you even had a chance to really love him.

Re: Sick Kitten From France - Update

Oh no..... poor little mite.
I was afraid it would turn out this way....
The brother dying of FIP and this little one being so ill twice in his short life just sounded far too ominous...

It must be so hard for you, but you did what was right, not just for yourself, but first and foremost for your kitten. It was very irresponsible of the breeder to accept these vague explanations from the vet and not demand a thorough examination. At least he will not have to suffer needlessly any more.

Do demand your money back, as she did not deliver a healthy kitten. Do not accept a replacement kitten, and don't take no for an answer.

Re: Sick Kitten From France - Update

Many thanks everyone for the messages of support and advice given on the forum. This has been so very helpful.

I came back from the breeder this evening and I was able to say good bye to my beautiful little kitten. I have stressed the wish not to let that poor little thing suffer anymore than it has already and I do hope that the breeder will listen.

I was also able to get my full £800 back without arguments. I have also learned that if a kitten dies of FIP within 21 days of leaving a cattery in France, the breeder has the obligation to provide a full refund....

It is a pretty upsetting ending for all parties involved, I believe both for myself and the breeder. I wonder now what will happen to the rest of the litter, another 3 beautiful kitten, already gone to their new homes. I hope they are not effected too.

I have learned some valuable lessons through this experience, 'the does and don'ts' of buying a kitten but I will have to lay my little dreams of owning a beautiful and enigmatic Chartreux to rest for the time being....

It's hard now going home empty handed and having to pack off all the little things I had bought for it....

Anyhow thank you and wishing you all the best for 2012!

I´m sorry things ended the way they did but maybe you can get another kitten to enjoy all the things you bought. A trip to your local shelter might just mke u fall inlove with one.

What a heart breaking story!
I know you will feel emotionally bruised and battered right now, but please don't give up the dream of owning a cat. Give yourself a week or two to recover, then look again, I am sure the right one will come along to heal the hurt.

Re: Sick Kitten From France - Update

So very sorry for all concerned especially the little kitten; such a sad experience for you. Perhaps once you have had some time to get over this experience you can try again with a different breeder.

Once again really sorry it's turned out this way.
