urgent advice on cleaning up rear end of a poorly cat.

I have an elderly cat that is very poorly at the moment. We have been to the vets again this morning.
I would like to clean her up as she has had the runs in the night and again this morning. It's just brown water!
Her bottom is sore as well.
I have some vasoline.
Can anybody advise me on what i can use to clean her bottom and her fur?
I want to make sure no germs get insde her so i feel the cleaner she is the better.

I use babby wipes or warm water.

Re: urgent advice on cleaning up rear end of a poorly cat.

Sorry your girl is poorly. I've never been in the position where my cats have had a sore bottom but it's happened with a guinea of mine. (bladder cancer). I just used warm water to clean then thoroughly dry the the sore parts and I was advised to use drapolene nappy cream. Apparently with vasolene if there is any moisture present it will hold it against the skin and prevent the area from drying.

Jill, how is she now? I'm wondering if the medication is making this worse as this can be a side-effect. Also have the vets mentioned parasites as opposed to infection as a potential cause. Is she on any antibiotics?

Oh Jill I am so sorry to hear she is not doing so well. I use a weak solution of johnsons baby shampoo to clean Millie when she gets a runny bum, using a soft wash cloth to clean the area. I think that just allowing it to air dry is the best option.
I do hope she perks up soon.

I use tissue and warm water and gently wipe until clean. You can also use antibacterial baby wipes. Alternatively make a diluted cleaning solution with warm water mixed with a small amount of cat-safe shampoo (you can get antiseptic/antibacterial ones, or ones for sensitive skin) and gently sponge to clean.

Her blood has been tested and all organs are fine.
We have been told to give her the rehydration solution which we did last night but in the night she had the runs and was brought up water and bile.
We took her back this morning and they have told us to give her 5ml of rehydration water every 20 minutes.
Today they gave her steroidal anti inflamatories + potentiated sulphonamide antibiotic injection.
We also have some anti sickness tabs to give her later and some recovery food.
On Wednesday they also gave her an antibiotic that would last a couple of weeks
The vet has not mentioned parasites.
Yazmin has not been outside in the garden since the nice weather we had last October.
At the moment she is dozing and the water has kept down.
Maybe last night i gave her too much?

Re: urgent advice on cleaning up rear end of a poorly cat.

By medication I meant the Metoclopramide. I just wondered about parsites in view of blood in vomit and stools but hopefully this has cleared up now by the sounds of it. Older cats with weaker immune systems might show symptoms even if others are fine. How was her temperature today?

Important to keep her hydrated but I'd try and get her eating a little as well.

Hope you've more luck with the last injection and she turn a corner now, poor thing. Keep us posted.
