Hi there, looking for some help/advice. My 9wk old kitten has a bit of a swollen eye which is bloodshot (only on the White of the eye) and has had a bit of a green discharge/gunk from it. He's had quite a bit of tears from it (as the fur under his eye is patchy/damp from it) so I guess it's jst his body flushing it out. I've tried some cool boiled water with a touch of salt to clean it. He also tries to clean it but it's been about 3 or 4 days and it's not clearing up. I've heard about trying a used teabag as a colleague at work says it works for her cats but I've yet to try it. Does anyone else find this method helps or would it be best to get him to a vet? Would be great to hear if anyone else has been in a similar situation and what they've done to cure it using a home remedy or simple eye drops. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks guys (& gals!) LOL

Re: 9wk old kitten has swollen red eye
Sounds like either an infection or damage, I would vet asap. He/She will check to see if any damage and then advise treatment. Eyes can become very sore very quickly
Hope all is well |

Re: 9wk old kitten has swollen red eye
Hey everyone thought I'd update you with kitkat's condition. The eye infection spread to his other eye and noticed he started sneezing. Got him 2 the vets this morning and u've probably guessed it, it's a bout of cat flu
![]() He's well in himself, still eating and drinking as normal and still as hyperactive as normal which the vet was pleased with so he's prescribed fucithalmic eye drops and an anti-bio and 2 go for a check up next week. The vet also asked what I am feeding kitkat and I said felix kitten pouches and cat milk. The vet said I should wean him off it but he's only about 9-10wks and if he's got flu I'd think he'd need all the help and nutrition available, plus kitkat loves it! Has anyone else been told the same by a vet or have older cats who use cat milk? Would like to hear your opinion please because I think I'll keep him on it for now. Thanx! |

Re: 9wk old kitten has swollen red eye
I have a 12 yr old whos never missed her portion of daily cat milk!!! andIm pleased to say shes never been sick a day in her life!!! shes an indoor cat from aged 8 when she discovered a litter of kittens lactol which now also has daily!!! her day starts with cat milk and anti oxident tablet and finishes with lactol and cod liver oil capsule she has light weight biscuit down all the time aandhas a portion of comos porta applaws or chicken at lunchtime...........
I wouldnt worry about the milk if he likes it as long as hes not overweight its fine but mine wouldnt give it up so I put her on light weight biscuits and let her keep the milk as for the kitten food I recomend mine are fed it to 10 months old then weened onto a adolesence food to 3 then weened onto adult food but thats me

Re: 9wk old kitten has swollen red eye
i'd ditch the cat milk and just give your kitten water. plenty of felix kitten if that is what he likes and maybe some dry biscuits too. or, even cook him some chicken or fish.

Re: 9wk old kitten has swollen red eye
Hi Brightside, i'd go with your vets advice and ditch the catmilk,it has zero nutrition and is doing him no favors, water will be better for him and he will be fine on that
Sardines are a cheap, nutritional meal for him and if he's a bit under the weather will be easy and light for him to eat,or some chicken minced up, some white fish, tuna, these are all better nutrition wise for him and cheaper than pouches and again easy and light for him to eat and digest Good luck and hope we've helped, hope he gets well again asap![]() |

Hey again everyone,
Thought it's about time for an update on kitkat. He's a load better now, back to his normal hyper self! I didn't manage to get him back to the vets yet since work has been chaotic in the run up to Xmas, but I stopped his antibiotics a few nights ago along with the eye drops. He'd been on them for about 2weeks. Still not been able to load any pics yet, sorry! I've got a question though, When kitkat is on my lap and I've been stroking him for a while, he curls up or moves alot closer to me and starts liking/sucking his fur on his side while purring very loudly and keeps opening and closing his paws/claws as if he's in a trance (only way to describe it LOL!) because I can move him, carry him or put him in his bed and he'd still be licking/sucking his fur! Does anyone know what this could be? Is it a comfort thing? It's always his side/tummy and his fur always ends up soaking!! Thnx for any help in advance! |
