Applaws Dried food?

Yay or Nay?

I have been feeding the cats Wiskers most of their life, but having got a dog and reading into nutrition I never realized before how rubbish Main stream pet food is.

On line there is a sale at PAH for Applaws, which is also what I feed my dog, is it worth trying the kitties on it as well? Obviously I would buy the Cat version not the dog for the cats lol

Re: Applaws Dried food?

Why does it have to be dry? Have you thought of feeding them a good quality wet food instead? This would be 100% better for them.

To answer your question though, Applaws is considered to be one of the better dried foods as it is higher meat content and no cereals. Though it is nowhere near as good as a wet food.

Re: Applaws Dried food?

Applaws dry is complete. It is available for kittens or for adults, the composition is the same, but the kibbles for the kittens are smaller in size; the only difference in composition is that for kittens, there's a little more phosphorous.

Not very palatable though, it's possible that your kitten refuses it at first. I would rather try Orijen, the quality is the same and they like it more. Or Acana, but I noticed that it may also not be too palatable.

Re: Applaws Dried food?

I usually feed one wet and one dry meal a day.... I'm not sure why tbh I guess my folks did it that way so I have always done it that way. I was 16 when I got Dizzy my eldest cat and I have always just stuck to that, Always stuck to Whiskers / Go cat too, It never occurred to me that it might not be good cat food until recently.

Wet food I was looking at in store was their Purely range. Is this ok, or are their any others you would recommend?

Firstly I was about to say the same, but then I thought that each owner chooses depending on the case, maybe some of us don't spend too much time at home, to feed the cat with wet food 4-5 times per day, according to a kitten needs.

Of course, if I had considered wet (mainly raw) from the start, since my cats were younger, things would have been so easy now. But better later than never

I think they should eat Applaws easy enough, which is why I started looking into it, they were trying to steal it from the dog (dog version obviously) ! I don't want them eating the dog food they need the extra Taurine I think in the cat version, so as long as its good enough I will go with that! I guess anything is better than Whiskers / Go Cat so any step is a big step forwards.

Re: Applaws Dried food?

Here's what I do for my 18 week old kitten.
I feed 3 times per day Smilla or Animonda Carney (wet high meat content food) then I put Applaws dry in a treat ball for him when I go out. I only do this so he has something to nibble on and it gives him something to do.

I only hope the dog will not eat the cats' food now

This is exactly my problem! My dog gets half Raw and Half Kibble (Applaws) If i understood Cat digestion 8 years ago almost when I got Dizzy, my first cat when I left home, I would have done things soo much different. But nope, I did what my parents always did. Not out of lack of caring, but because I thought it was the right thing to do! If I told my dad when he was still alive that I would get a dog and feed her raw meat and bones, he would've thought I was crazy! I would happily feed the cats one kibble and one raw feed a day as well, but I really dont understand Raw feeding with cats, it seems to be a lot more complicated than dogs for some reason. They occasionally get raw meat when I take too much out for Faythe but I dont give them bones and its purely as a complimentary food. TBH I really do like the convenience of Dry food and so half wet and half dry is best suited for my routine. Dizzy is almost 8 now and I dont see her adapting too well to a huge change to that. She doesn't eat as much wet food, she seems to prefer the dried, but thats probably down to the fact that the wt food I had been feeding her is rubbish
