Leukaemia vaccination, yes or no?

Yesterday Thomas had his first leukaemia vaccination yesterday.
It seems when I talk amangst friends it's 50/50 whether they have this done or not.
Do your cats have it or not?

Re: Leukaemia vaccination, yes or no?

Mine have it - Coda didn't come with it but had it as she was being shown - I'm not getting the others redone as they have had 3 years worth of vacs . . but I will keep Coda up to date all the time I show her and all the time she is a breeding queen going out to stud.

No they don't need it for showing, I just wondered who chose to have it anyway

Re: Leukaemia vaccination, yes or no?

Both my cats have had it. I saw the my mum's poor cat die of FIV & FelV, won't risk putting mine through that when there is a jab that can prevent

Re: Leukaemia vaccination, yes or no?

Mine have all had it as well. Although the risk of them contracting leukaemia is practically 0 (it's transmitted through cat bites), what if they escaped one day and got in a fight? Not likely, perhaps, but not worth the risk either.

Re: Leukaemia vaccination, yes or no?

No mine isn't vaccinated because being indoor only and having no contact with any other cats in my opinion the inherent risk of the vaccination outweighs the likelihood of her ever coming into contact with it. If she were outdoor then unquestionably I would have her vaccinated
